Just got into this kick of buying books "locally". Started with bookshop.org but I found this dope cafe x bookshop that's not listed there and I'm trying to go there at least once a month to support them.

feels kinda good to get back into the store and see the same faces, even if the book is priced a buck or two more than on Amazon I still really prefer the experience.

It's where I buy most of my books. It's pretty well-known, and very large. Powell's Books in Portland.

Oh shit
I never even recognized Powell's as a local/independent store, that shit is massive. I haven't been in many years though :(

Most of the local bookshops here are too expensive and not worth it. However we did have a great store in the city which I would visit a few times a year, unfortunately it will probably be closing at the start of next year.

Yes and no. Its like a 60 mile trip since I live in rural Midwest and its always decently higher priced than I can just order online. I mean I have a pretty good amount of disposable income and Im all for supporting local to a point but no one likes just giving their money away when they dont need to.

When a book is a solid $10 more there and it takes me $10 worth of gas and a couple hours of my time when online will deliver it to my doorstep with a click of the button its hard not to utilize that. But I still occasionally will buy there.

Most of my books come from the library. Mine has a pretty good selection of manga and graphic novels, which is super nice considering how expensive that can get.

I support a local bookstore, but not my most local one because all their books are in Vietnamese.

I like this one though:

Theres a local comic book shop my girlfriend and I frequent. We like to support mom and pop shops if we can. Theres also a pretty cool coffee shop/bookstore based on a medieval tavern. Its pretty cool. The book selection is pretty small but the coffee is great and they have reading rooms to just come and chill

No, because the only local bookstore is a Christian bookstore, and Im not generally looking for theology books. But I also dont generally use stores like Amazon, so I cant vote in this poll. I mostly buy books from sellers on eBay.

We have a friends of the library store where good books are ultra cheap, so I support them. I don't know if we even have a regular book store anymore. We have a Books-A-Million, but I've never cared for them. They've always been expensive IMO.

edit: Oh, I forgot about Ollie's just because I don't think of them as a book store, but they do occasionally have some good books.

Sort of. It's a chain with a couple dozen stores in about twenty states.

I mostly go and see if someone's traded a few specific issues of Green Arrow. They never have. I realize, of course, how much of a long shot that is, lol.

But I've bought probably a dozen books there when I looked around afterward.

I don't know why in the world they thought Redneck Einstein would make people want to shop there.
