Yeah a solid start

I thought it was the worst of Gunn's comic book stuff but I love his stuff and it's still a solid 8/10 for me

'Cause I'm a punk rocker, yes I am

Pretty excited for the Supergirl movie next. Really enjoyed the message and upbeat nature of Superman, do want more.

Likewise thought it was pretty delightful.

Shocker, Superman works better when colorful (both visually and regarding character personalities), playful, and hopeful.

I don't think I've seen anyone call it "GOAT" or "Masterpiece"

Its just a fun return to form after a long period of medicore-bad Superman films.

I think it was really good. My only real issue was that it was a little too jokey, just a little too MCU/GotG. I'd probably edit out like 15mins of humor. That aside, i think Gunn gets Superman and his casting was solid all around.

Loved that he wasn't afraid to just toss the audiance into the universe. No build up just get to the events.

Was awesome.

Looks like Superman just needed better direction. James Gunn being that direction. Imagine if DC had MCU quality people behind it. They would be as good as the MCU.

Eh it mostly was fine. Maybe a smidgen trimmed here and there but it was decently balanced. I think 15 mins would be excessive

God yes. If we got a krypton prologue scene I would've been annoyed.

We know. The whole planet does. And for the few who don't a quick text blurb and the context provided throughout will do just fine.

I didn't think it was egregious with it, like how "read the room" Love & Thunder or GotG2 was. It knew when to have the serious tone at the right times. It's about how it was in most comics.

Very good start for the DCU.

Pretty sure Gunna specifically said he wasn't gonna do that, didn't he?

I loved it, only 2 parts of it I really didn't like and both of those were character portrayals at no fault of the actual actor.

1) Lois was so fucking insufferable grilling Clark on stopping that war. I get the intent was "oh look at her unflappable journalistic integrity isn't so she so great with how even the dude she's fucking can't dissuade her from the path of good journalism?!", however she just came off like Fucker Carlson for like 1-2 minutes. Especially since it wasn't even a subtle parallel with Russia's invasion of Ukraine I just kept hearing Fucker Carlson going, "Nyah what gives Superman the moral authority to destroy Russian governmental property and prevent their leader from murdering millions of people?! Nyah I'm Tucker Carlson look at my stupid fucking face!" I just loathed her character beyond belief for 1-2 minutes and I feel it was intentional because an exasperated Clark yells at her "PEOPLE WERE GOING TO DIE!" like, yeah, for real, get your fucking priorities straight. Also really didn't vibe with that whole "no I don't know for a fact that he was going to kill them under false pretenses" line because imagine someone saying that with a straight face about Putin, after all the invasions and mass murdering he's done, someone in the "respected" journalism world going "nah I'm still going to give him the benefit of the doubt this time", it doesn't seem educated or "morally detached" from the story, it just makes the person some nave beyond belief and incapable of recognizing historical patterns enacted by a single individual. It also gave me reminiscent vibes of our mainstream media who would overly critique a Democrat that farted too loudly in an elevator in front of Republicans while letting a Republican go "yeah Democrats are in favor of post-birth abortions" without any sort of pushback and just normalizing that bullshit. Except, of course, Lois Lane is a far better and more moral journalist than anybody in our current mainstream corporate media.

Other than that she was a fantastic character and like I said it wasn't the actor's fault, that was a terrible line and moment in general.

2) Not only was that the most unlikeable villain I've ever seen, ESPECIALLY for it being Lex Luthor I was like what the actual fuck are they doing with this character? Literally nothing to pull you to his side, he was just some petty pissant jealous fuckboi who couldn't cope with the fact that his money could be outpowered by an alien force. Him, his 2 lackies, and everybody in that control station just literally had nothing likeable about them whatsoever. Even Thanos has a good amount of people agreeing with him and/or at least seeing the logic in what he intended to do. This Lex Luthor was just "WAAAAAHHHH SUPERMAN SO STRONG AND I'M SO NOT WAAAAAAHHHHHH"

Fuck, even Eisenberg's portrayal of Luthor had that sweet philosophical soliloquy scene where he hung the portrait of the angels and the devils fighting each other inverted as a statement of how he felt about humans vs powered beings. This Luthor was just bitch made and bitch mode 1000% of the time. Especially when they revealed the whole "hur hur dur let me just tear the fabric of space and time, put the entire planet at risk, so I can illegally eternally imprison ex-girlfriends and people who criticized me on social media." This dude was what Trump WISHES he was smart and rich enough to pull off.

Of course, the superior portrayal of Lex Luthor will always be the animated black Lex from the Superman cartoon.

Other than that, no criticisms whatsoever. Definitely my favorite portrayal of Jonathan Kent to date.

1) Lois agreed with Superman saving people, but as a journalist, she was right to question the idea of him unilaterally taking sides in geopolitical affairs. Superman intervenes in this conflict and intimidates the Netanyutin dude, why shouldn't he just sweep through the entire world and make people live peacefully by force? She's asking difficult questions he doesn't have the answer to because people are going to be asking those questions.

Lois also personally feels that the excuse that they're liberating the country is complete bullshit, but as a journalist, she doesn't know that for a fact. You're comparing her to our dogshit news media, but the problem you're having is that she's not acting like our dogshit news media.

2) If your Lex Luthor isn't fundamentally a petty pissant jealous fuckboi, that ain't Lex.
