Rank your top five from the choices below: Anri - Timely!! Cocteau Twins - Heaven or Las Vegas Curve - Cuckoo Mort Garson - Mother Earth's Plantasia Katamari Damacy Soundtrack "Katamari Fortissimo Damacy" The Killers - Sam's Town John Maus - We Must Become the Pitiless Censors of Ourselves The National - Alligator Sinad O'Connor - I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got Tom Petty - Full Moon Fever Songs: Ohia - The Magnolia Electric Co. Justin Timberlake - FutureSex/LoveSounds spreadsheets with previous results can be found here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/12PpZ3uQ093tRPVu-KLewIxmrzfLJf1oo?usp=drive_link The rules: 1. Listen to the album in full 2. Rank every track on the album 3. For the results, there will be a curve at the top of each list; two additional points between #1 and #2, and one additional point for the next two ranks. This way, the songs that really stick out to someone get an edge that is not immediately negated by someone else putting it lower. In the case of Demon Days, someone's 15th track will get 1 point, 14th 2 points, 4th 12 points, 3rd 14 points, 2nd 16 points, and 1st 19 points. For albums with greater than 15 tracks, everything ranked below #15 will be given 0 points and the scale for the top 15 will be the same as a 15-track album. For albums with more than 20 tracks, you only have to list your top 15 (with 16-20, I still like having the average rank listed) 4. If you want to include comments for individual songs, I will compile them in the results 5. The results will be posted at the beginning of the next topic 6. The deadline to vote is Thursday, August 28th at 8:00 AM Central Time; If you do get in a vote after the deadline but before I post the results, I will probably include it. 7. Every few weeks, a nomination period will open; there may or may not be a theme. Each user can nominate one album. The following week, everyone will be able to rank their top ~5 among the choices - this will use a bottom-up scoring approach, i.e. voting for one album will give your #1 a single point, voting for five will give your #1 five points, so it is always better to vote for the maximum number of albums. The top ~5 will then be covered (if there is a tie leading to six entries, both get in - if more than that, I will do a tiebreaker) 8. Skits and tracks under 40 seconds will be excluded from the rankings unless argued otherwise Beyonc - RENAISSANCE track list: 1. I'm That Girl 2. Cozy 3. Alien Superstar 4. Cuff It 5. Energy 6. Anri - Timely!!: A Japanese city pop classic. https://youtu.be/uQ9nsr9YoCQ Cocteau Twins - Heaven or Las Vegas: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PbbUeLkZt74 Cocteau Twins have a very unique, ethereal sort of sound, and a lot of the modern indie pop I listen to is so clearly influenced by them. The words often sound like gibberish, but I think it's just because whatever they're saying is really esoteric, and the singer is Scottish. I like every album by them, but this one was probably their biggest - I think those of you who don't put a lot of stock in the lyrics might especially enjoy it as a whole, and not just the biggest tracks. Curve - Cuckoo: One of my old favorites. Kinda heavyish alternative rock (industrial?) with a lot of different sounds. And only 10 songs so it should be simpler to rank than a bunch of the last few weeks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8tyE73Vaak Mort Garson - Mother Earth's Plantasia: I don't really know what this is - it came up third in RYM results searching for music that's happy, quirky, and hypnotic. The sample track certainly delivers. Why settle for something you've heard of when you can try something new instead? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkesIsPGlSU Katamari Damacy Soundtrack "Katamari Fortissimo Damacy": A hugely varied video game soundtrack that doesn't really sound like a video game soundtrack. It's hard to define the genre because it takes from so many influences. It is a bit long at 75 minutes overall, but it's more than worth it and doesn't overstay its welcome. Sample Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WuT3fgk3vzQ The Killers - Sam's Town: One of the albums that defined my taste in music through the early 2000s and I will stand by the statement that it is consistently a better and more thematically creative album than Hot Fuss https://youtu.be/4H3ZgR0EESM?si=UUPFhwNVOHJmn9Ka John Maus - We Must Become the Pitiless Censors of Ourselves: https://youtu.be/GgxVktBNZjY?si=JDyanLWpEB9PUpVG The National - Alligator: Very difficult choice, I love both Alligator and Boxer to bits, but Alligator is just a smidge more tinged with nostalgia for me which gives it my preference. Anyway, I always describe The National as mid-life crisis music. That sounds worse than it is, it's just...it's music for people in their thirties and forties (even if I discovered them in my teens!), there's just such a mood of both melancholy and an uproarious desire for life and purpose too. This and Boxer are perfect albums, even everything on here that could lean towards filler fills its purpose exactly in the grand scheme of the album. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0PY4VBirn08 Sinad O'Connor - I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got: I'm following up on Joni Mitchell with another singer/songwriter classic, this one from 1990. Sinad is one of those great artists who will never get the respect she deserved because of a stupid controversy where she spoke the truth before people were ready to hear it. She's a wonderful vocalist, and this is an album I've been meaning to revisit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-EF60neguk Tom Petty - Full Moon Fever: I can link to them if you want but the notable hits on this album are "Free Fallin'," "Runnin' Down a Dream," "I Won't Back Down," and "Yer So Bad." Songs: Ohia - The Magnolia Electric Co.: Have I nominated this before? Possibly, but I have a poor memory. Hauntingly beautiful Alt-Country album, with some of my all time favorite songs on it. Sample Track: https://youtu.be/1zI2ztkoeh0?si=c5QqCXB-KEdv7jte Justin Timberlake - FutureSex/LoveSounds: Kind of a random choice by me. I've never heard this album in full but I do remember enjoying some of the singles back when, so, why not, right? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gOHvDP_vCs --- My top 100 games (with write-ups): https://foolfantastic.com/top-100-video-games-project/ Top 250 songs: https://foolfantastic.com/3290-2/ ... By far my favorite Beyonc album. The sheer variety in subgenres of dance/house music in this album is really cool by itself. There's just so much creativity in the compositions here that really wasn't extremely present in her previous records. Great production and obviously Beyonc's voice is stellar. Really nice to finally see Beyonc covered here regardless. --- Don't trust everything that you read on the Internet. -Abraham Lincoln ... Copied to Clipboard!

Kind of a perfect full album experience, which is uncommon for mainstream pop albums, especially those that run an hour plus. Fun album, the production is clearly really, really good. It's always a good sign when a pop album has no boring songs! This sort of dance-pop isn't typically my genre but I enjoyed how varied this was. It's also a hornier album than I was expecting, but I think it fits the vibe perfectly. Shout-outs to the dude on RYM who heralded this album as a forebearer of the return to Sodom and Gomorrah and a concerning influence on the minds of children.
