i know how that works. they're only 'optional' in theory, and when nobody decides they want to skip thanksgiving to work a shit position they get voluntold to fill in.

True. TC should've said triple because a lot of jobs already pay at least time and a half.

Those are historically days you can get a bump for working a sixth day i. the week.

And its also usually a short day.

Im in a job where if its your regular workday you work holidays. You can request them off but in 27 years I have only taken a holiday like 3 times. I just work them.

We get 2.5 times pay. That was nice when I was younger. Now the money is irrelevant but I still work because I simply dont care about holidays and its rare for them to line up with my weekend. Might as well just work.

I get Monday holidays off though because its my regular day off, so I get an extra day of pay on my day off.

Never had a job that worked like that but id take the free time off over extra pay.

I would only ever do that if I was in desperate need of the extra money. But I'm not, and a long weekend is more important to me than the extra money.

I sell furniture. All major holidays outside of when we're closed (Easter, Thanksgiving, Xmas) are mandatory. I usually still try and weasel my way out of New Years though, it's a terrible shopping day.

If I have nothing better to do....sure

I loved it when I was younger. Now Im more financially secure and value my time more. And I work a salary job where you just have to get your work done regardless.

My whole family is poor, we've definitely had years where everyone works on the holiday and if we have a get together, it's later/earlier in the week.

A long time ago I ended up working on Christmas when I was 18 or 19. It was a Subway. I think it was dead the entire day and I just played DS in the back room until the boss called and said we could go home early.

Another time was when I worked at a casino on New Years. Absolutely packed and full of weird people

You are aware that many people use paid holidays to go on holidays, right?

Ours aren't 2x, but they are T1.5 (fime and a half)
My job requires 24 hour staffing though, so I work a lot of those sort of shifts each year no matter what - we just try to submit our preferences in advance if there are any particular ones we do or do not want to work, and it mostly works out ok.

My holidays are paid double time for hours worked plus 8 hours base pay. If and when we work holidays, as long as it isn't something I'd normally skip out on (kid time comes first), I try to get a 12 hour day.

Nah, I like my time off. We don't get that option, anyway. All federal holidays are automatically days off.
