I think aging game consoles are one of the victims of the dual craze of collecting and rating/scalping.

I think it is hard to find any console in mint condition

Probably a dumb question but why do you need it in a mint condition?

I mean, the DS Lite is almost 2 decades old now. Expecting to find one in mint condition is like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

It's not impossible, just really fucking expensive.

There are sealed DS Lite that go for $1000+.

mine isnt too banged up but its got some scratches from being stored in a cardboard box with other stuff for years

You can find new sealed ones online but they're expensive. Buy a used one and buy a new case replacement.

DS Lites were really, really easy to scratch, so good luck finding one in mint condition that hasn't been reshelled or isn't brand new. That's not even touching the fact that the plastic/rubber on most consoles seems to degrade over time, no matter what you do. Anyway, this topic inspired me to dig mine out of storage during my lunch to see what kind of condition it's in, since it's probably been 15+ years since it last saw use. Turns out it has a good few good scrapes on it (part of me wonders if it happened while it was in storage, as it turned out to be loose and not in its original box), but it also has a ton of hairline scratches on both sides. The screens are in good shape, though, beyond needing to be dusted/cleaned (which goes for the console as a whole - I can see plenty of dust buildup in the cracks and crevices)

This was also the second DS Lite I bought, because the other one ended up with a broken hinge (though to be fair, a buddy of mine was the cause of that) and eventually stopped reading DS carts. I actually still have the box for that one, too, though I think I traded the system itself to GameStop to get something out of it. I kinda regret trading my original DS for one back in the day, too, as I'd like to have it for the memories/collection and it seems pretty tough to find one that has the screens and shell in good shape for a decent price.

If you dont mind the inauthentic parts, you can find some nice re-shelled DSs online for not bad prices.

I have to check mine. Im like 99% sure that the model I have is the Lite. I honestly barely used it. It ought to be in near mint condition.

This topic is basically telling me that I should probably think about doing something with mine. It's all original, no damage/scratches. Afaik the only 'damage' is the layer of dust and bacteria that started to grow on the top outer shell for merely existing untouched so long.

I may or may not have a fully trained Nintendopuppy on mine.

Can't a 3DS do everything the DSL can do? Or are you just collecting?

The 3DS doesn't have a GBA slot, but I think that's otherwise true. I assume most anyone who wants one nowadays is collecting, though.

One issue I recall, is that the 3ds was prone to scratching its own screen, a lot, unlike a DS. Though the 3ds/2ds were larger and more powerful outside of maybe the secondary port that lite has. It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure my Lite has the port to allow Gameboy and Gameboy advance cartridges to be inserted.

I traded my white DSL for a black one in my teens and randomly regretting it now. I kinda miss the color lol

I get it, I sold my 3DS a few years back and bought one last year
