You should definitely check the outside for an area where they are flying in/out.

are they coming in your front door or are you noticing them in a random room? i've seen someone with a beehive built into the eve of their roof that eventually let them get into the exterior wall and then later through a seem in the window sill.

Is it a bee or a wasp? Reason being is that a wasp nest would be pretty big at this point of the year.

Okay, so, there's definitely a nest somewhere, and I'm pretty sure it's either in my light fixture or in the ceiling above it. There are about six of the bastards crawling around on my ceiling light today.

Also I was mistaken when making the topic, they're yellow jackets, not bees. So fuck these guys, I'm done evicting. It's time for death.

Right now I have some clove scented oil in a diffuser filling the room, and it seems to be having a bit of an effect on them. I read that it's one of the scents that repels them so this is their last chance to vacate before I go to Home Depot and get a trap, which I'm going to hang right next to the light.

I have to be careful what I use because of the other pets in my house, especially birds. They should be far enough away from the affected room that I can spray some Raid around in here (especially if I open the balcony door for ventilation), but I don't think I should take the risk.

I was going to ask if youre sure its not the same bee repeatedly breaking in, but I see that youre dealing with a full-scale invasion.

Time to declare war.

scented oil wont do shit, they'll just retreat to their nest. you've got several things you need to do tc.
  • get a box of borax and make a sweet trap for the hornets. tablespoon borax, 3 tablespoons sugar, enough water to dissolve. put them in the room with the bugs.
  • go outside and find the entry point the bugs used to get into your house. check around the gutters, and the shingle overhangs at the edge of the roof. find the hole, fill it with expanding foam if you need to. they even make bug killing expanding foam.
  • you need to figure out where the nest is and deal with it. the sweet traps will help, ideally it will kill the nest as the bugs eat the borax laced syrup back in the nest, but you should still find the nest. this is the dangerous part because you'll be literally kicking a hornet nest. personally i'd get a shop vac, fill the basin with some soapy water, and just keep it ready as i poked around. if you want extra protection get one of those bee keeper hoods. or just call a professional.

This is absolutely the worst advice. They are already getting into the house. If you block their outdoor exit, more (all) will be exiting into the house.

They start their nests in the spring. By now itll be fucking huge. Thats why they are getting into the house - there are just so many of them.

Find the entry. Then apply Tempo dust. They will wipe it on themselves entering and exiting and within a week the nest will be dead.

Or get an exterminator to apply it. I have to get one because its regulated in my state. But its what exterminators have used when I had a nest in my soffits and it worked great.

So does my bug zapper racquet. Boss was using one on fruit flies at work and given my own fruit fly woes I just had to order one that day.

oof

get some diatomaceous earth and sprinkle it around places that you think they're using to enter the home. it wont kill them right away, but that stuff will get all up in their business and make short work of them. if they're coming in thru a crack or hole in a screen, its unlikely that they're flying so the stuff will get on them

also try peppermint oil, its a decent deterrent. not sure about yellow jackets or wasps but its generally a good deterrent for insects.

if that doesnt work, let preying mantises loose in your house or befriend a spider.

actually if you do nothing im sure a spider will build a web wherever bugs are getting in.

oh, also you can mix vinegar w/ water, add dish soap, and put that into a spray bottle. they'll die pretty fast when you spray them with it.
dont get it on plants, btw. tons of ppl recommend that as a pest deterrent but it can really easily burn your plants.

Update: I found where the hive is. It's actually in the eaves outside my window, I saw about thirty of the little bastards buzzing around out there. One of my windows was left open a little bit and I never noticed (no more than half an inch high), so they've been getting in there.

I shut the window and moved the trap outside to my balcony, and it's caught a couple dozen of them so far. No sightings inside my room today, so I think I've at the very least cut them off at the source.
