this is going to be a bigger waste of money than Massachusetts changing all the exit numbers on route 3 a few years back. They put up all the big new signs, *and* had to make new smaller signs that said "Old Exit: #" for all the people who refused to learn the new exit numbers.

I don't know how we "undo the damage" when the damage is enormous. Our foreign relationships are no longer credible. The damage to the economy is unreal. Our education system is being shot to hell even worse than it already was. Military recruitment will probably drop. No one is going to prosecute everyone that is complicit in the rampant corruption and abuse of power that we are witnessing on a daily basis. We'll be lucky if anyone is prosecuted.

This isn't just a Republican coming in and deciding to give tax cuts to rich companies and rubberstamping a few ecologically damaging oil pipeline projects. This is a wholesale destruction of the country from within. And that's not really hyperbole. Decades' old expertise is just completely gone from most government institutions.

Like even if a Democrat is elected and immediately wants to re-establish USAID, and even if the funding for that gets approved within a short amount of time, you still need to find people who are qualified to even complete the job of administering and executing the distribution of aid. Everyone who has that experience is gone. Some might come back, but I doubt most would. I wouldn't.

Even if my comment is extreme and pessimistic, it's still critical to realize that this is not the status quo turnover of one party's leadership to another, and the things that are happening now are not normal. Mass deportations without due process are not normal. Executions of drug traffickers at sea is not normal. Turning over ever American's private data to illegally appointed college dropouts is not normal. Appointing science deniers, foreign assets and Fox News personalities with no qualifications to cabinet positions is not normal. Deploying the military to US cities for the sake of literally overthrowing democratically elected government is not normal (this is what the secretary of homeland security literally stated was the mission of the NG and Marines in Los Angeles).

It really concerns me when I hear (and this isn't about you, this is about just in general because I hear it at work and in social circles, too) that "this happens every time a new president is elected and in a few years it'll be a Democrat and they'll change it again".

The right is a loss cause, but what you posted seriously needs to be explained to those on the left who to this day still dont understand the importance of voting to keep Republicans out of office in all elections. Because I have no doubt those types will vote for a Democrat in 2028.... to not understand a Democrat cant reverse the damages so easily for reasons you explained.... to then repeat 2016 and 2024 to rallying just enough people to not vote to stop Republicans from winning again. We still have people who think one shouldn't blame eligible voters who decided not to vote or went 3rd party in 2016 and 2024.
