Police in Kashiwara City, Osaka Prefecture, have arrested a 42-year-old man on suspicion of attempted arson after he allegedly poured diesel fuel in front of the entrance of an apartment where a woman he knew and her boyfriend lived.

According to police, Yuichi Tanaka, a company employee from Kasugai City in Osaka Prefecture, is accused of pouring the fuel between midnight and 12:10 a.m. on Aug 19, Sankei Shimbun reported.

Police said Tanaka has denied the allegation and quoted him as saying, "I had romantic feelings for the woman until recently, but I didn't commit arson."

Police believe Tanaka had a one-sided romantic interest in the woman who is in her 20s and lives with her boyfriend who is in his 30s. Tanaka said he has known the woman for about 18 months.

Police allege Tanaka ignited the fuel, burning the intercom of the apartment. But the fire did not spread to the building. No one was injured.

At the time of the incident, the woman was out, and her boyfriend was inside. He heard a noise as if someone was trying to force open the door and noticed the intercom was burning, so he called 110.

Diesel fuel? Lol good luck getting that to ignite. Gasoline is spark ignition but diesel is ignited by pressure and is pretty damn hard to ignite with just a flame.

Well it does bring up the matter of when not taking proper responsibility for your mental issues becomes unacceptable and inexcusable.

There obviously is a point where someone's neuroses should be something they recognize is becoming a danger to other people but where that line is drawn feels ambiguous and rife with conditionals.

The outcome someone decides is the most appropriate for the situation can be spurred by a warped perception of reality brought on by mental issues.

Re the last few posts above you -- to me, this is the ideology part. It's taught. Men learn this.

How they act on it is inflected by mental health issues? I dunno. That part seems like a sliding scale.

I guess I should come back and say I think I misrepresented my point. I was only bringing up the mental health issue because I wanted to rationalize why the news tends to be too gentle when trying to analyze an awful situation. I feel like it's some kind of attempt at not alienating anyone when they report on something that part of their audience could identify with, even if there's nothing there that anyone should be happy to say they feel the same way about.

I would think it's more about believing they're getting payback for a perceived slight.

The number of people who commit serious violent crime as a result of mental illness is exceedingly small.

The number of people who have a warped sense of entitlement, nurture a deep sense of resentment, are angry at the world in general (women in particular), and choose to act on those feelings, is depressingly large.

The two groups are entirely unrelated, and conflating them hurts those who do suffer with mental illness (the very vast majority of whom are not violent).

When I worked at the prison we had a guy that decapitated his crushes infant son, took a picture and sent the picture to the mother while she was at work because he was in love with her and she had been on a date with another guy.

Although she let him babysit, so I dont know what the fuck she was possibly thinking because he was a creep. He made it a few days in general population before they smacked him around a little bit.

Usually they do that to prove their point so theyll check into protective custody. If they dont check in it will escalate. I did see one sex offender refuse to check in once, and he made it for months because they were afraid to fight him. He was in really good shape. Finally he did request protective custody because someone went into his cell and pissed all over his property and he got fed up. They never put a hand on him though. Theyre not always as tough as they pretend, it depends on the Group/housing unit. And this was at a maximum security prison.
