Shogun was written by James Clavell, a British writer whose first noteworthy success came as a Hollywood screenwriter. "The Great Escape" is probably his best known screenplay but he also wrote and directed the landmark film "To Sir, With Love." Most people know the two miniseries that came from his most famous epic novel,of which he wrote several.

Another one that I'm not sure if many people know is that Rod Serling wasn't just the host of "The Twilight Zone" but he created the entire production and was its principal screenwriter.
