See creators on there saying their views are way down - talked about my channel seeing a spike last month, so wasn't surprised when it cooled off, but it's way down from my usual too.

Apparently, this drop went down on Aug 13.

Lucky it's not a primary source of income for me, but this has to be devastating to those guys - to have your livelihoods fucked by flip of the switch...

What did they do? lol Heard talk they cracked down on the AI channels, and this is the collateral?

there was a video i watched from josh strife hayes that said that videos are being hidden if a user has restricted mode on. problem is, some algorithm is deciding if a video is hidden, so even if a video is clean and perfectly safe for everyone videos could just be not shown to users, and nothing is notifying creators that a video is being restricted or why

YT never admits fault, so I can't take them at their word if restricted mode isn't being turned on by default.

Seems like a nice way to pay a bill, or two on the side. Wouldn't stock more than that unless you had a massive base in the millions.

Rev isn't a harmless vtuber. Dude is an alt-right grifter screaming about woke. He's also a hardcore lolicon. You didn't just randomly discover Rev's channel. Did you?

It's very likely he watched a few vtuber videos and it came up on recommended because Rev's a vtuber. Because that's just what the algorithm does. I don't think it means what you're implying.

As an example, I like watching Xenoblade videos, especially video essays, and found a channel that specialized in both and they seemed very well put-together. So I subscribed, but it wasn't until later that I found out the dude had pedophilic tendencies outside of Youtube and had some questionable videos on the platform that I assume he deleted, so I immediately put a stop to watching his stuff.

Not subbed, so they must have came up in home once i was doing research on this.

I personally wouldn't risk a channel with political crap from either side, but err..."hardcore" lolicon? Just need the last part to give me the side eye.

Yeah sometimes it's not immediately obvious when someone's a piece of shit. Willing to give TC the benefit of the doubt since they're not tripling down like someone bad faith typically does at this point.

Smaller channels pumping out quality content that are being suppressed by the algorithm need to be highlighted/celebrated more as opposed to the clickbait/sensory overload garbage.

On the other hand, they did add a "hype" feature for smaller channels (under 50k subscribers I think). Within the first(?) week of videos being uploaded, viewers can "hype" the video for free and it'll greatly boost the visability of the video/channel. One of the few good things Youtube actually added.

Youtube insists that Restricted Mode thing is an opt-in feature, but a lot of people are just now finding out about it and that it was turned on for them. So I sincerely doubt it is opt-in only and that new algorithm that restricts content based on what it assumes your age is may be involved. Especially since they've recently added AI-assisted features (like auto-dubbing) that were automatically turned on. Had to go to my upload defaults and turn off that AI stuff.

For what it's worth, couple subs on my community tab say their restricted mode was on by default.

I actually just got a video in my recommended that was titled "Watch woke people get destroyed by Dave Chapelle!"

I swear I am not actively searching that shit or even clicking on them, lol. It just happens.

it's crap. For at least a week now, i can't watch YouTube embedded videos, including here on gamefaqs. It asks me to sign in to make sure I'm not a bot. But I'm already signed in. And when I click on sign in on the embedded video, it doesn't actually take me there. I pretty much have to go to YouTube.com or the app and manually find the video and watch it from there. I'm surprised more people haven't complained about it here.
