https://www.wral.com/story/gop-senate-candidate-whatley-we-don-t-need-separation-of-church-and-state/22151351/

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Michael Whatley on Monday pushed pastors to run for public office, called on churches to encourage their congregations to register to vote and promoted the dissolution of the separation of church and state.

"We need more men and women of faith in the public square, Whatley said during a speech at a pastor summit in Raleigh. We don't need separation of faith and politics. We don't need separation of church and state."

Whatley is seen as the front-runner for his partys nomination in the race to replace North Carolinas senior U.S. senator, Republican Thom Tillis, who isnt running for reelection. He was among the speakers at the summit, hosted by the American Renewal Project, which aims to inspire the American church to embrace its role in the public square," according to its website.

The group has received criticism from some groups who say it is promoting Christian nationalism, arguing that the blurring of the lines between church and state is harmful to democracy. A group called Christians Against Christian Nationalism planned a protest on Monday outside the summit.

But Whatley and the American Renewal Project say more people of strong faith are needed in public office. You're the ones that have the influence, that have the day-to-day impact on every single family and every single member of your community, Whatley told the pastors.

Whatleys call comes two months after the Trump administration moved to loosen federal regulations of churches and their political activities. For decades, federal law has prohibited all 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations including churches from formally endorsing or opposing political candidates. In July, the Internal Revenue Service said in a court filing that the law should be reversed.

A 2024 Pew Research poll showed most Americans support the principle of separation of church and state. But two-thirds of Republicans say the Bible should influence U.S. laws at least some, the poll found, which is why the group is an important constituency for Whatley.

Slowly laying the groundwork.

The problem with having churches involved in politics is they don't have to disclose who's donating money to them. So if they can endorse political candidates that's an avenue for all kinds of dark money to flow in to influence elections.

This is no shock having grown up in an Evangelical church and amongst conservatives. A lot of them have always despised the separation of church and state and tried to claim the bullshit that we are a Christian nation.

It is disheartening that more and more are publically calling for it and are opening embracing Christian Nationalism, though.

I love what they do, and it's been quite effective against GOP efforts to chip away at separation of church and state. But if the GOP manages to truly throw away separation of church and state, it won't matter anymore. They'll just outlaw the Satanists along with every religion except Christianity.

It's not enough to have an already privileged religion in society.

When you see all of these establishment cause breaking laws and statutes being passed, even a basic reading shows unimaginable disdain for the irreligious and minority religions. Because at the end of the day, somebody has an idea of exactly which denomination they're trying to promote without spelling it out.

Which reading of the ten commandments or the lord's prayer? Oh, it's this specific one.

You don't actually have a god or have different structures like Buddhism? Too bad, you're not getting these extra protections.

But of course, when they say that, they aren't talking about this. This is TOO MUCH Jesus, and they love everything that's a grift in modern religion. They just want to use his name as an excuse to push bigoted policies to attack the people they hate.

When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. In the temple courts he found people selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money. So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. To those who sold doves he said, Get these out of here! Stop turning my Fathers house into a market! - John 2:13-16

It's people who will say they're all about freedom but when you really get into it they only mean for themselves and people who agree with them. They want all the upsides of freedom for themselves without the downsides of having to respect other people's freedoms as well.

What ever could have possibly turned people away from religion. No, it couldn't possibly be evangelicals trying to shove it down everyone's throat.

Forcing people to adhere to a faith couldn't possibly go wrong.

These fuckers are so non-thinking.

Ok - so you're ok with laws being written by religions? You ok with Muslim or Buddhist laws and leaders making policy on their religions? Are you ok with YOUR religion being illegal?

Of course fucking not. They're a-ok with being a biased hypocrite moron as long as it benefits themselves personally. Selfish pricks.

What these idiots not realize:
No one cares about their religious beliefs. They are free to believe in everything they want and act accordingly, as long as it's within the law. They are not restricted by any means.

They don't like abortions? They're free to not get any. Their decision. I don't care about their life. But don't tell others, whose beliefs are different, what they are allowed to or not.

The list with examples like this could go on and go on forever.

No separation of church and state means Muslims should be allowed to run for office, right? Or is "Christianity" the only one that's allowed to do so? (looks at the shit Mamdani's going through at NYC)

The problem with that is that, despite what they claim, the fundamentalists don't simply want to believe in everything they want and act accordingly. They want to make everyone else have to do the same, too.

Something important that christian conservatives should keep in mind: when America establishes a theocracy dictatorship, they won't simply pick "Christianity". It will be 1 specific denomination. And for Catholics in particular, I can guarantee Catholicism won't be what is chosen.

If that happens thats when things start to finally come to a head.

And thats goes for other flavors as well. Like there is a state that has its own really weird flavor of ChristianityUtah. We sure are shit know they arent the ones that are getting picked.

It just becomes more purity tests. They never fucking end. I didnt realize we lived in the damn Terran universe from Star Trek.
