I really hate that every single time we read another case about a teenage or early 20s shooter my mind automatically jumps to this young person being absolutely brain-washed by the junk they read on places like 4chan/8/chan/r9k/pol, etc. Like it really does feel like the vast majority of these cases fall down that exact pipeline at the exact same websites everytime.

13 year olds who's minds did not yet melt because of social media is still that age range when they are maturing a bit but at the same time will still have some of those childhood interests like collecting whatever, getting into some more action-oriented toons, movies, etc.

EDIT: Right after making this post I got curious and was going over a news/ subreddit post about this.....apparently this kid hasn't been enrolled in school since like 2021. (A victim of having a nutter parent that did not want to send him back after the covid shutdowns because of mask mandates from what it looks like).

Take a nutter anti-mask and apparently really gun-loving parent that wants to homeschool because forced to blahblahblah, leave this kid to his own devices around the clock to hop on the internet as a modern kid would do it being left to do their own thing and=radicalized by some other dumbasses on "the usual" sites. Those type of posts isn't from a kid trying to be cool....they have already being straight up radicalized at this point.

sounds like they arrested a responsible gun owner! because remember, you're a responsible gun owner practicing your second amendment rights up to the minute you start blasting.

TACOMA, Wash. (AP) A 13-year-old boy described by police as obsessed with school shooters was arrested on multiple firearms possession charges and causing a threat after they say they found social media posts about intentions to kill and seized 23 guns and ammunition from his home.

The boy pleaded not guilty to a total of five charges, four of them felonies, in juvenile court on Monday. He was arrested over the weekend in Washingtons Pierce County.
The boys name has not been released. It was not immediately known if he had a lawyer. Juvenile court records are generally confidential.

Firearms were mounted on walls and handguns were found unsecured throughout the home, sheriffs Deputy Carly Cappetto said in a news release Monday.

Several pieces of evidence from the suspects bedroom indicated he was obsessed with past school shooters and imitated similar behaviors with photos and inscriptions throughout his room, she said.

Loaded magazines with school shooter writings on them were removed.

It appeared the suspect had everything ready to go to commit a mass shooting type of incident. It is unknown who or what the intended target was going to be, but its clear it was a matter of time before a tragic incident occurred, Cappetto said.

The boys parents said their son had no intention of harming anyone. His mother, who attended the court hearing, suggested in an interview afterward that the social media posts were an attempt to be cool among peers, KOMO-TV reported.

Cappetto said the boy was last enrolled in the Franklin Pierce School District in 2021. He was currently unenrolled and was not currently an active student in any school district.

There is almost no possible way he obtained those legitimately on his own, his parent(s) has to have supplied those to him or someone is missing a good handful of guns and never noticed.

I assume those are the parents guns (at least on the paperwork), but holy cow that is a lot. No one needs that much for any reason

Adult(s)? I can see a collector wanting that many or acquiring that many over the course of their life.

For many, it is a legitimate hobby. They acquire their weapons through direct purchase, gun swaps/shows, gun bashes (basically a raffle for guns).

One of the instructors I've had in the Army, between him and his brother, they own over 300 different guns. He hunts and has even taught his daughters to hunt.

Does somebody need that many guns? No, but you could say that about almost anything. "You don't need 3000 video games on your shelves, you can't possibly play them all. Even if you did, you likely wouldn't complete them or remember every single one"

So long as they're not (actively) planning anything dangerous or nefarious, it is really nobody else's business.

Since this teen was, at a minimum, cosplaying a school shooter look, then yeah he definitely doesn't need access to these weapons.

It's crazy how we keep seeing the same pattern of writings on magazines and weapons.

Parents have failed and should be charged as well.

the difference is guns have ONE PURPOSE and that is to kill

thats what the issue with collecting so many guns is they are not a form of entertainment

they are a weapon designed to kill its there soul function

gun collectors are not showing these weapons the respect they should be shown

That's not even true though. You can just shoot targets or keep them as dust collectors.

The major threat is ammo stockpiling, imo. Not that I am against gun control: I'm pretty adamantly for it, because people keep getting shot. But also I think the queer community should take notes from the Black Panthers.

While I won't say that I know many gun collectors, many gun owners are actually responsible. It is the ones that aren't that you hear about.

That isn't to say that collectors aren't showing them off like toys, but so long as they're being safe and responsible, it is no business of the state.

If you don't want to associate with people who have/collect a lot of guns, you're free not to do so

That's the trick, though. You can't tell from the receipts in the same way you can't tell a good guy with a gun until he starts shooting.

It usually only becomes someone's business after there are bodies, because Republicans demand red flag laws never ever be passed that could prevent harm.

(I think a red flag should also be on a record, or at least a yellow "he's on our radar" flag, for someone with x purchases within y days.)
