1st one ever and Ive been dreading it for weeks. Already cancelled twice because my anxiety was getting to me. Now Im just ready to get this over with.

Ive had no food all day and Ive been drinking the stuff they gave me for the past 45 minutes. Doesnt taste to bad and my stomach is beginning to churn.

Luckily my appointment is early and looking forward to a big meal afterwards.

Ive had several. The liquid shutting clear part sucks. But the actual procedure is nothing really. You go to sleep and wake up all done like nothing even happened.

Yeah, the prep is way worse than the procedure.

I had one many years ago. Not due again until next year. But in any case, they sedated me but I was conscious. They told me I likely wouldn't remember anything. So I stared hard at the cabinet across from me and focused to remember. Which is the only thing I remember.

The prep for the procedure is much worse than the actual procedure itself. The clear LAX shit is pretty gross (use to mix it with lemon lime Gatorade, now lemon lime Gatorade is forever ruined for me) and the draining process isnt very pleasant either.

The actual colonoscopy? Ive had at least 3 or 4 in my lifetime and I dont remember a single one, mostly due to the meds they give you. Every single time I only remember being pushed into the room, shaking hands with the doctor, being told to lay on my side after signing something and then..being pushed back to my room in just a blink of an eye. Not even kidding. After that I just feel tired. Can never remember the doctor coming in and giving me the diagnosis either, have to ask my parent or whoever drove me there what happened.

So yeah, nothing to worry about. You probably wont remember it.

i'm kinda scared of getting my gallbladder out... it's elective so I don't -have- to do it, and I'm not afraid of the surgery proper. What I AM afraid of is anesthetization

I had a colonoscopy a couple years ago. As everyone else is saying, the prep is by far the worst part.

The actual procedure was a huge nothing burger. You lay down on a bed, they wheel you into the operating room and everyone introduces themselves, they give you some stuff that knocks you out, you wake up back in the recovery room. You fart a lot.

I'd turned on the TV before the procedure and an episode of MASH was just starting when they came to get me; when I woke up, that same episode was just ending, so the whole thing was done in under 30 minutes. It might take longer if they find polyps or need to do a biopsy; my colon was in great shape so they didn't need to do anything special.

Everything went smoothly. No issues and unless something changes I wont need another one for 10 years.

I had a nice nap during the procedure. I was only out for 30 minutes but it seemed longer.

I had one a month ago, and unfortunately it was diagnostic in nature. The prep is weird but you know that by now. My follow up was initially scheduled in October but after seeing the results they want me in sooner. All signs are pointing to chrohns but with colon cancer prevalent in my family its something to watch closely.

I was so nervous for my first colonoscopy but it ended up being no big deal. The Doctor was so caring ang gentle, he even massaged my shoulders with both hands the whole time.

Unless you have an established allergy to anesthetic (which they should theoretically test for), you should be 100% fine.

My surgery was no big deal. I barely remember it, as opposed to my memories of being wheeled around in hallways and loaded into MRIs while in intense pain. Though the Demerol helped out a bit for a while once they were willing to shoot me up.

It wasn't a big deal at all. As long as you've got a month or so to recover afterwards (and an extra month after that of not lifting anything too heavy or exerting yourself too much), you should be okay. It helps if you have someone who can help take care of you (especially for the first week or so), but it seems a lot scarier than it actually is.

And while your case is elective (mine was most very definitely not), if it's a case where the doctor is saying you have issues and should definitely have it done, I'd go for it if you can. You're much better off handling it now while it's not a huge problem, rather than waiting until it become a life-threatening demon gnawing at your abdomen like it was for me.
