Apparently no known or verified deaths by wild Orcas.Deaths were from those in captivity which kinda makes sense.

Many times humans have been on boats surrounded by Orcas and sometimes the Orcas hunting seals and the seal hops a ride. Orca could easily top over the boat and eat both but they don't.
If human falls into the water Orca would probably help the human back to the boat.

Incidents with wild orcas
There are a few recorded cases of wild orcas "threatening" humans, but there have been no fatalities.

While orca attacks on humans in the wild are rare, and no fatal attacks have been recorded, as of 2025 four humans have died due to interactions with captive orcas. Tilikum was involved in three of those deaths.

Wow. In 1000 years, the Earth will still be habitable, humans will still exist, we'll still have the resources to stop an asteroid, and we'll actually work together to stop it?

All jokes aside, humans are not nutritious for them. They get their nutrients from big, meaty things like seals and all the blubber.

I saw this question come up on reddit the other day. Aside from them not seeing us as food, they also might be smart enough to see us as animals who will team up and retaliate against them.

Orcas are very smart and have a long history of working with humans.

They're waiting until they evolve legs

They're not trying to eat the crew or even sink the boat. They're just being arseholes.

(They aren't even targeting the boats of billionaires and landlords. Just small craft and fishing boats).

Maybe they can somehow tell that humans are way too crunchy. We have a heavier bone structure than most of their prey and barely have any fat (relatively speaking, at least in the human specimens they'd likely encounter). Not to mention the indigestible wrappers we usually wear.

A few reasons I imagine. Animals are usually weary of new food that isnt apart of their normal diet unless they have absolutely no choice.

Or maybe we just arent very tasty to them. As maybe Orcas tried eating humans long ago. Did like the taste and past that on to future generations.

Or maybe that eating humans to them is equivalent to us not wanting to harm or kill certain animals. Either due to their cuteness, intelligence and or the bond we share.

We smell bad, probably.

I was thinking the exact opposite. Everyone knows orcas are assholes, so it just makes sense they're not doing anything to stop the species that is actively destroying the world.

Because if they truly have a problem with a particular human, they destroy the boat.

Theyre really quite intelligent and they used to be almost completely harmless until its theorized some of them were struck in the face by a propeller. Orcas like to swim in the prop wash. They also pass along information; such as to sink a boat if it hits you.

Standard Orcas are typically used for quick anti-tank strikes or picking off undefended harvesters

I mean humans are nasty, I remember one biting a surfer or something and then just running away.

It's just not worth the trouble.
