Damon Lindelof is the creator of Lost, The Leftovers, the Watchmen HBO series, and will be doing Lanterns

ABCs indefinite suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live! has already rattled Hollywood and Washington alike. Now Lost creator Damon Lindelof whose hit drama earned ABC critical acclaim and many Emmys in the 2000s says he wont work with the network or its parent company Disney until the late-night host is back on the air.

ABC announced on September 17 that Jimmy Kimmel Live! would be pulled off the air indefinitely, after remarks Kimmel made about the fallout surrounding conservative activist Charlie Kirks assassination. The move came after Nexstar, which operates 23 ABC affiliates, declared it would stop carrying the program.

In a passionate Instagram post, Lindelof who also created The Leftovers, Watchmen and Mrs. Davis shared personal memories of Kimmel dating back two decades. If you know Jimmy, you know he is caring and empathic and grateful most of all, you know that he is kind, he wrote. Lindelf said he was shocked, saddened and infuriated by ABCs decision and added that he cannot in good conscience continue working for Disney if the suspension remains in place.

The post in full reads, I first heard Jimmy Kimmel on Kevin & Bean shortly after I moved to L.A. in my twenties. I was a fan of his goofy, honest wit from the jump, and I never imagined we would one day be friends. I met him for the first time backstage at the ABC upfronts in 2004 he had just seen the Lost pilot and dug it. He also said, I hope you guys know what youre doing.'

In the twenty years since, Ive gotten to know Jimmy, and if you know Jimmy, you know his incredible wife and head writer, Molly, who is not just his better half but his better three-quarters. You also know he is caring and empathic and grateful. You know he loves his country. You know he appreciates a good roast, and he can take as good as he gives. You know he supported his crew through multiple strikes, and you know he is generous and philanthropic, and most of all, you know that he is kind. I was shocked, saddened and infuriated by yesterdays suspension and look forward to it being lifted soon. If it isnt, I cant in good conscience work for the company that imposed it. If youre about to fire up in my comments, just ask yourself if you know the difference between hate speech and a joke. I think you still do. And Jimmy? Youve ALWAYS known what you were doing. Love you and support you. D.

The shows future is uncertain. Kimmels contract with ABC runs through May 2026, but the comedian has not yet issued a public comment. Meanwhile, FCC Chairman Brendan Carr criticized Kimmels on-air remarks, saying his agency may hold ABC and parent company Disney accountable, though Anna Gomez, the only Democrat on the Federal Communications Commission, said the threats against ABC and Kimmel are truly empty.

Per Deadline, Gomez said during an appearance Thursday at the Axios Media Trends Live conference, We dont have the ability to actually take these actions [but the point is] to get capitulation as soon as possible. And when you see so much capitulation by the corporate parents, its really disappointing because every time they capitulate rather than show courage, what they are doing is eroding our democracy on our First Amendment freedoms.

We need everyone currently working for them to walk away. And bringing the show back isn't enough to fix this. Everyone responsible for that decision need to be fired (and without getting any golden parachutes).

Dude created The Leftovers. My all time favorite show.

Lindelof is a fucking hack, so I don't care what he says.

Did people honestly watch Kimmel? Or it more about the politics stuff.

I thought John Oliver and Jon Stewart were only ones people watched and they ignored Fallon, Kimmel, and Colbert show.

Nope...Not one person watched it. ABC just kept it running for shits and giggles.

Me too, this needs some big names and numbers pushing back. Otherwise it'll fizzle like that time Neil Young and a meager handful of other artists boycotted Spotify over Joe Rogan without much success.

Not necessarily. The Target boycott has taken a year for it to START to get through to them that they done fucked up. They'll juke their numbers in the short term, but these companies depend upon your brand loyalty. Just be prepared for a long boycott.

Disney was going to get 1000s from most of you over your lifetime, if not 10s of 1000s. That's not nothing.
