Trump thinks he doesn't he doesn't need to talk because the last time Republicans were trying to pass a budget resolution Schumer gave them what they wanted in exchange for nothing. Capitulating to bullies isn't going to make them respect you the next time. You have to stand up to them.

They are scared of losing their rights, their jobs, their homes. Because of their race, their sex, their beliefs, or their membership of the LBGT community.

And when they look to Democratic leaders to oppose Trump, they see that some of them appear to share very little of their fear, their outrage, their passionate opposition.

And they feel betrayed and abandoned.

The reason for Democrats unpopularity isn't a mystery, they are not seen as a party consisting of or fighting for the working class. Republicans are much worse in this regard, obviously, the difference is they have much better marketing.
