Just went to Aldi this morning. The customer ahead of me seemed done loading, so I took one of the two dividers and placed it between their items and mine. The person ahead said they werent done, moved their cart back into me to create more space, and then took the divider I had placed and put it between their items.

Once I realized what happened with the divider, I took it and placed it back between my items. Was I rude in any way with all this the first placement and then the second time? Should I have taken the other divider, or was it on the other customer to handle?

I don't see why they would need to move a divider if it was between your stuff.

They were trying to make two transactions. The other items were paper towels, large packs of water bottles, and maybe a couple of other things. Even then, I felt there was another divider available. They had plenty of time to place it, so I thought they were done and would like tell the cashier items since people dont put the water/paper towels on the conveyer belt. Why take mine when they could have taken the other one?

I think if Aldi had line enforcement, this could have been prevented, but theyre understaffed. Youre at the mercy of the people ahead of you in line. Another issue when its crowded is that people dont want to lose their spot, so they just leave the line without asking you to hold their spot while they get other items. But that minor compared to this divider issue.

I live in a low population farming area of the Midwest US. The big city where I go for grocery stores is 10,000 people. There are 4 major grocery stores there. I use 2 of them. My days off are on Mondays and Tuesdays. I do my shopping at like 1000 on Monday mornings.

Outside a few retirees and maybe some spouses who dont have traditional jobs the store is mostly empty. I love it. Very few people shop on Mondays, combined with the fact its a low population area anyway. Its great.

seems not like this would happen often. But you could have used another divider.

I think it's funny something like line enforcement should be a solution, like a person just for that?

Yep. This took place Sunday morning. So you obviously arent even at the grocery store at that time of day. It mainly an Aldi issue. If I went to the local super market they open 7:30am so I have 7:30-8:30 to shop and no one there. The closest Aldi to me doesnt open until 9am so more people are awake by then.

Im just talking about calling whos next. Sometimes its a guessing game whether you should start loading at Aldi, since the cashier is focused on the current customer.

Most people probably 99% dont make two transactions. Another issue is when its crowded is if I had waited longer, Id be holding up the people behind me.

I don't really understand that, it's a line and you can tell usually when there is enough space to place the items.

So to repeat the OP.

yes that is how it works usually, I wouldn't think about it too much if that is the only time it has happened.

I think the other user kinda indirectly answered it. Most people just avoid going during the busy hours. I keep thinking going 1 hour after opening ok but my gut right. Go as soon as they open.

early morning the best option when school is in session. less crowds.

or late night (used to do this in my younger years) usually went around 7-8pm for food shopping (wish i knew back then to use a utility cart would've made food shopping so much easier.

At other stores, sure, timing can help. Like I mentioned earlier, my local grocery store is usually empty until about noon when people get out of church.

But Aldi is different because of their understaffed model (meant to pass savings on to customers), my store usually has just two cashiers max in the morning, often only one. Unless youre there right at open and rush to be first in line, its typically a 1520 minute wait to even reach the register.
