Fuck if I know.

I've always thought patriotism was stupid. And I include Canadian patriotism too.

As a fellow Canadian, pretty much this.

Im not sure I feel genuine patriotism. More like me appreciating the stuff I got and acknowledging Im lucky to be in the states. If thats patriotism I guess I feel it now. But I cant remember if I was ever proud of our government. Maybe before I was born in WW2

This. Its really sad. I used to be super patriotic. Like, I knew the country (especially the government) wasnt perfect, but it always seemed like most American people were honest and well-meaning, and just needed to be confronted with the right argument or with exposure to the people they have presuppositions about.

Trump winning drove that view right off a cliff. A good half the country is unapologetically bigoted in one way or another, proudly ignorant, and willing to sell out their fellow man immediately if it means they profit.

I'm neither proud/patriotic nor ashamed of what piece of land I happened to be born from. I'm an individual and what country I am from really doesn't define me, good or bad. I mean I served in the military and never felt patriotic.

I'm not putting down anyone else who happens to be patriotic about their country of origin. I just have never been wired like that. I'm apathetic about it.

Basically hated this country ever since I was forced to recite the pledge of allegiance.

Literally never. My friend and I got in trouble for constantly making fun of the pledge of allegiance in elementary school. Thought it was fucking weird from day goddamn 1 of life.
