Why would someone willingly disturb their mind like that?

The same reason why Romans liked seeing people eaten alive by lions. Humans are naturally evil which is why we had to make religion and laws so we don't kill ourselves off.

Unless it's played for laughs, I don't get it either. Humans are just sick I guess.

The worse people make a thing out to be, or try to hide it, the more I want to see it. Almost doesn't matter what it is.

Yep... I recently read a story about how the Mongols accepted the surrender of a large city called Merv which was on the Silk Road. They just marched in through the open gates and dragged somewhere close to a million people out of the city and killed them all one by one. It took over a week to do it. They city itself wasn't that big, but hundreds of thousands of people had fled from the surrounding areas and were hiding behind the "safe" walls of the city.

History is full of little stories like that.

Evil is a cultural concept, not a fixed law of nature. Humans are just animals and we made religion and laws because it's difficult to empathize with people you don't know but have to share space with.

If you mean actual gore its usually the same reasons people kill small animals unfortunately
if you mean fictional it can be a morbid interest due to ptsd (almsot every friend I know has been interested in fictional gore because of this)
soemtimes they can crossover too

Humans are violent, malicious, and animalistic by nature

But even at that it's pretty easy to separate violence you see from movies, shows, video games, drawings/paintings, etc from real violence. At the end of the day media violence is actually far less terrifying and horrifying than real life violence and you know it's how life actually works. I used to be terrified of gory horror movies until I watched a few and then it realizing that yeah most of this doesn't actually represent real life and come remotely close to actual atrocities.
And in a lot of ways film/tv gore is almost like learning secrets behind magic tricks you see on stage

Unless you are watching a snuff film then Idk what to tell ya probably should seek therapy.

Sometimes you get tricked into it.
I know ticktock in particular has a really weird algorithm and you might actually be watching gore masked by ai or something.

That or if you follow a lot of media that covers war or conditions outside of the US, you'll stumble up some articles that may contain gore. Liveleaks was one of those places...

@cousinvini there are plenty of people out there that can differentiate fiction from reality.

Now if you are speaking of real life gore watching, thats a different topic all together. But even that some nuance is needed here as even that can be compartmentalized. Depends on the circumstances.

Sorry, to clarify I was talking about actual gore in this thread. As bad as fictional ones can be, at least at the end of the day you know they aren't real

Yeah they were using minion AI filters to mask gore footage. Pretty gross.

You can't escape it, some mainstream films feature real life killings and I'll mention the films but put SPOILER tags

Da 5 Bloods - Summary execution in Vietnam
One of the Michael Moore films features a public beheading execution in Saudi Arabia.

Those are just 2 examples off the top of my head but I'm pretty sure there are others.

All I remember is a pic of a guy who basically disintegrated in the bathtub and was essentially a pile of goop. Not sure if that's the same one.

I dont actively seek or watch it on the regular, but I admit if theres something in the news or I hear about, I will make an attempt to find and watch it. Combination of actual interest/curiosity and some sort of motivation to empathize with the victim(s) or situation on a more direct level.
