I recently read a story about how the Mongols accepted the surrender of a large city called Merv which was on the Silk Road. They just marched in through the open gates and dragged somewhere close to a million people out of the city and killed them all one by one. It took over a week to do it. They city itself wasn't that big, but hundreds of thousands of people had fled from the surrounding areas and were hiding behind the "safe" walls of the city. At the end of the day media violence is actually far less terrifying and horrifying than real life violence and you know it's how life actually works. I used to be terrified of gory horror movies until I watched a few and then it realizing that yeah most of this doesn't actually represent real life and come remotely close to actual atrocities.
