Currently have a 2010 Toyota Yaris. I've owned it for 4 years. In the first year I owned it, it had tons of issues, but after forking over $3,000 in repairs, it has worked flawlessly in the past year. The only issue right now is my dashboard has tons of lights on, and I'm told it's a censor issue. Bought it when it had 100,000 miles, now it has 130,000 miles.

New car is a 2015 Toyota Yaris. Cost is $6,500, and it has 80,000 miles. Car appears to be in near perfect condition with only minor cosmetic issues. This car is a hatchback, unlike mine, which is prefer. There is a chance someone else might take it if I don't act fast.

Why I'm considering it: I like my 2010, but I've owned it for 4 years, and I want to make sure I buy a car while I still have one, rather than struggling to find one while I have no car. But now I have second thoughts because my car has worked fine for the last year. I feel like I might have a few years left before I actually need a new car.

What would you do if you were me?

If the current car is working fine, I'd keep it. That new car could end up having some major issues come up too since it's coming up on 10 years/100k when a lot of wear-and-tear shit starts to...tear. At least you know the recent history of the current one.

Yeah, you're probably better off keeping what you have.

Yeah, keep the car you have. You have no idea what kind of ticking time bomb the new Yaris could be.

That's the top end of the market for that model and mileage.

If it were me, I'd keep the current car running and save for a more significant upgrade.
