Every poll option is selected from https://nintendo.fandom.com/wiki/Special:Random

1. If it lands on a character, that character goes in the poll
2. If it lands on a game with a very obvious main character (like featured on the box art), that character goes in the poll
3. If it lands on something that could somehow be easily interpreted as a character, it goes in the poll.
4. If the page doesn't fit any criteria above, or is a character already in Smash Bros., it gets skipped.

There's something insurmountably funny about "The" Marvel character showing up after the DC round. The randomizer pulled through.

But not for Zack and Cody.

Seeing Arcade Bunny on the poll just makes me sad we never got that many upgrades from assist trophies to playable characters. IIRC Little Mac was the only one?
