I usually go to the dentist twice a year when I have insurance, but when I don't, I don't go. There was a period where I went over 10 years between visits.

The average for Americans is once a year. Mexicans go the least often, just once every 10 years, while the Dutch and the Japanese average more than 3 visits per year.

Everyone including me has voted 2 times a year so far, so a visit every 6 months must be the norm

I should go for a simple cleaning, but the first step involves x-rays followed by "so you have a ..."

For a few years I used to go once per year because I was misinformed by a secretary at my dentist office that said my plan only approved for one visit per year. I don't know how or why she thought that.

It's what dentists themselves generally recommend. A check-up and cleaning every six months.

You're probably only going more often if you're having a lot of work done. And you're likely only going less often if you're skipping out entirely.

Twice a year. The cleaning is covered by my insurance. I love it.

my healthcare gives me 2 a year, so I go 2 a year

This definitely helps maintain cleanliness but a full professional cleaning is unmatched by anything you can do on your own.

If you only use the dentist for preventative care that is a good thing.

Nah just being facetious about being chastised by a dentist so I stopped going so I wouldn't be told what to do

I am pleasantly surprised at the number of people on this board who actually go to the dentist regularly. I did not expect that.

Maybe because the average age here is such that people who didn't go often enough started to see the repercussions and have since rectified that.

I was unable to see one for two and a half years and I hated it. Luckily, I didn't get any cavities, but I am thrilled to have two free cleanings a year.

I understand not being in the habit of flossing regularly (only did it myself in the past several years) but I hear stories of people who never brush and I don't get it. OK, I do. I understand it wasn't a habit ingrained in them growing up. But it's just a simple quick easy thing that can help prevent loads of problems going forward.

2 check-ups and whatever follow up is needed.

Once a year. My wife is a hygienist and I take really good care of my teeth at home. I've never once had a cavity.

Once in 40 years. I have an exceptionally healthy mouth.

Can't afford it. I think I last went in 2012-2013.
