As a side part time evening job. Pay is shit, 15 dollars an hour. We'll see if I get it.

I know its not like some high up job but I would have expected it to be slightly better than that. I live in the bumfuck Midwest in farm country between cornfields and cow pastures and most bottom of the barrel convenience store jobs have to pay $12 to $14 or they cant even fill the positions and those are usually just like part time high school kids.

Even the local Wal-mart starts I think at $18. A plethora of food places are in that high teen range. Thought something like that would be slightly higher.

I did a similar thing years ago working as an EasyTech at Staples. I'd leave my career IT job in the afternoon and go work that part time job for 4-5 hours. Was a lot of fun actually. Got to hang around people closer to my age, Staples is chill outside of Back to School season, and I'd use my employee discount for bathroom supplies for our home.

Yeah I do. My first IT job was Tech Support and I dealt with all kinds of people all over the country.

That's such a ripoff. They offer a lot less than they used to, but you still have to pay a lot of money.

How difficult is the job? We talking normal pc problems/setup or does it expand to home theaters and other stuff?

That was their pay like 15 years ago and I turned it down

Really, that low? Maybe it's in a cheaper part of the country, but shit, that's less than minimum wage where I'm from.

Similar to how Staples Easy Tech works. You're more a tech salesman than a tech support person. They lose money on laptops and make their money pushing services and accessories. They lose money having you in the back working on PCs and not on the floor selling. We only performed a couple pc services in house and the rest we'd ship them to the service center. Since I was an actual IT person though, the store manager was cool with me fixing most of the pc issues and helping our turn around times. I also refused to upsell people on crap so I always had some of the lowest sales numbers. Lol

I was geek squad from 2016 to 2018. At $15 per hour, I'm guessing you're a "Consultation Agent." The front end guy at the counter talking to the customer. The repair agents that stay in the back and actually work on the machines make more (I was about $25/hour).

Fair warning: a solid 50% of your job is going to be selling protection plans. And another 25% is going to be hocking Best Buy credit cards. You will be graded on how many of them you push. Don't listen to any manager who tries to sell you a "that's not your job" line. I promise you, it is, and they'll make sure you know it.

Also, as a former repair agent, please please PLEASE document everything in the check in notes. Nothing sucked more than dealing with pissed off customers when I had to call them and ask them wtf I was supposed to do when the CA didn't write any notes.
