I don't understand, didn't they already face this backlash like 15 years ago with Windows 8 when they tried to make it look like a smartphone, and so released Windows 8.1 to make it look somewhat slightly more normal? Did they think enough time has passed that they could do something shitty again?

Didn't think I'd live long enough to see technology become cyclical. Fashion maybe, but technology?

Windows 8 didn't have a Start menu by default, when clicking on the Windows icon it took you to an entirely new fullscreen of Windows phone icons that didn't have a taskbar at the bottom at all. Windows 11, as shitty as it is, does have the traditional taskbar with its own Start menu, although the menu shows a lot less info than before.

I have been using explorer patcher since going to 11 half a year ago and it has been working no issue

I'm disappointed that you seemingly went through with the downgrade to Windows 11 after your posts in my topic here which made it seem like you were enrolling for ESU: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/400-current-events/81049349

My honest advice is to switch to 2021 LTSC now, but if you're going to stay on 11, then you'll want this:

https://github.com/valinet/ExplorerPatcher

This will allow you to get the Windows 10 taskbar and start menu on Windows 11. For 24H2 onwards, the version is a custom-made implementation. For 23H2 and earlier, the 10 code is still in the OS and activated using this tool.

Thanks! Also I wanted to clarify some things:

This is going to be for my work pc, not home pc, since they've already started replacing all the computers with new ones that have Windows 11 (so it's out of my hands) and as such I've decided to use it as practice for when I eventually get Windows 11 for my new custom built PC in a few years (I keep putting off having a new pc built, I'm just learning more about what the good top of the line/extravagant specs are, and how many hundreds of TB drives SSD/HDD I can stuff in it, in case I'm too lazy to learn what a NAS or RAID or even G-RAID is)

While 8 launched in a bad state 8.1 was pretty good IMO, and extremely lightweight, even compared to 7. I kinda miss 8 honestly.

Honestly until 7 you could skip every other one. I skipped 8 though.

7,10 and 11. As long as not much changes I dont really care that much

Which video should I use for the whole "beginner's guide to what Microsoft settings to turn off for windows 11" especially since I'm not interested in any AI tools or anything really, I just want a simple barebones experience. Hell the way I used windows 10 could be replicated in windows XP, I'm really not looking to do any overly extravagant programming or softwaring

Be careful disabling things that you dont understand. I.e. you might think its safe to remove the Xbox related apps but some are dependencies for other things, like I think the snipping/screenshot tool relies on the Xbox game bar existing, or at least it used to

anyway just be careful if someone convinces you to run some sort of debloater, always double check what it is youre actually switching off cause you might fuck your PC and need to reinstall windows. Nothing wrong with debloaters, just understand what it is youre doing and what will break as a result
