Yup, I was going to post this. Wasn't fake but I mean Trump said it was so the default really is to just assume the opposite of what he says is actually factual.

The Reagan administration was heavily influenced by Milton Friedman who was a massive opponent of tariffs and also wanted open borders (he encouraged amnesty for undocumented immigrants which Reagan actually did). He even had a show on PBS back then that encouraged free trade. I know a lot of people here weren't alive for the Reagan era, but the current GOP is basically doing the same thing with him they do with Christianity. They're taking the parts they like (in both cases for example reasons for hating LGBT people) and ignoring stuff they don't (free trade, immigration, etc.).

I fully expect the world in ten years time is basically going to have to have a full information "reset" where the only things trusted as truth are pretty much only physical books that predate the modern AI situation (because even books that could supposedly be trusted won't be able to be verified as free from information tainted by AI).

Not really. I despise Trump and I'm not a fan of 2/3 of your country right now, but the US is still our biggest trading partner so it's still a problem. CUSMA, er, USMCA is saving us for now but Trump will try to tear it up or screw us over on it soon enough.

This would be a lot more upsetting if we(Canada) weren't already diversifying our trade. At this point I rather we make deals with India and China since they're less of a headache to deal with.

My MAGA parents have already been doing that for a few years now. Anytime I tell them about something that looks bad for Republicans, they say it's just AI. They think the video of Elon Musk doing a nazi salute is AI. Even though it aired live on TV.
