All because a select few students are sneaking in tobacco vapes and using the masks to hide the smoke. And I have to be the one sending out communication and fielding parents calling asking if we've lost our God damn minds.

I'm never working in education again.

We also don't serve lunch and had to ban outside snacks because resealers exist and they sneak them in the bags. Many students complain about being hungry and can't focus because of this.

...you dont serve lunch? is this a private school? or some dystopian public school hell? i thought mine was bad when they had to take all the doors off the bathrooms to make it harder for kids to smoke crack...

honestly i dont see why the school admin would give a flying fuck about a few students doing their best to hide their vaping habits. the school isn't their parent, when caught just report them to their parents. if the parents wont do anything then go to CPS and wash your hands of it.

Punishing everyone for the actions of a few always works out well. I don't know how legally or ethically a school can refuse to serve lunch just because a few people are sneaking in vapes. Have you considered an anonymous tip to the media?

Is it legal for a school not to allow students to eat food?

When I was in highschool especially, skipping a meal would basically make me a potato for the rest of the day.

We're a charter school where they only attend 5 hours. Basically students are here just shy of us being legally required to serve lunch. The real reason we're going wild on vapes is because the principal is absolutely fucking insane and is the direct cause of half our staff planning to quit at the end of the year. Unfortunately I'm basically her secretary so my hands are tied. My attitude is, let this shit escalate until the district or management company comes down and fires her.

It's simply the easiest solution, and the one that took approximately 10 seconds of planning. Honestly I'm getting closer to an anonymous tip, I just need to prepare myself for handling that fallout.

Florida. The school mission and everything is amazing, we're dropout prevention so we basically give students a second chance. However the entire system is absolutely fucked. On federal, state, district, school, parent and student levels. I understand why so many teachers are leaving the field. It's frustrating and depressing.

Why are they hiding them in underwear or shoes?
Do they get patted down upon entry?

You still have to put the vape to your mouth to hit it. Its very obvious if someone is trying to hit a vape.

Exactly. You also don't have to hold it in for long for there to be little to no visible vapor, especially on a quick hit.

We have done random searches because our metal detector doesn't catch the plastic vapes. None of us are risking a damn thing so they know they can stash vapes there and get away with it.

It is for vape reasons. It is that stupid. The whole decision was basically:

Teacher: Students are using masks to hide the smoke.
Principal: Ok then, ban the masks. If they're sick they need to stay home.

I heard the whole thing. Teacher and staff can and absolutely do wear masks. I really wish this was all more nefarious and political, but it's chalked up to unchecked neuroticism.
