Following the Toronto Blue Jays' Game 7 loss in the 2025 World Series, infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa received hateful messages and threats, including one to break his legs. The threats were related to a controversial play in the ninth inning where he was thrown out at home plate, which ended a potential game-winning rally for Toronto.

I fucking hate fans that do this. Fuck off and reevaluate your life, fucking garbage human beings. Sigh.

Unfortunately this is very common amongst sporting fans. David Beckham received no end of abuse for getting recklessly sent off in the 1998 World Cup and Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka and Jadon Sancho would get severe racial abuse for missing penalties in the 2020 Euros

can't forget about the murder of andres escobar after the 1994 world cup. fans take these games way too personally, especially when gambling is involved

I wonder when this problem is finally gonna come to a head? And what I mean by that is it gets so bad, that it affects the performance of several players and their personal lives, and a lot of former players start speaking out against gambling in sports.

Running through a base is always faster than sliding. The primary reason for sliding is to avoid a tag. The play at home was a force out, meaning there's no tag to avoid and thus he shouldn't have slid. Given how close the play was, he probably cost Toronto a championship with that slide.

And there are any number of Jays equally responsible for the loss. They squandered opportunity after opportunity to pad the lead.

But also, they wouldn't have gotten to game 7 without the efforts of IKF, Barger, Hoffman, Varsho, etc.
