I hated the FFT re-translation as both lords and commoners spoke it to an annoying degree. Now the Dragon Quest remake I got a few hours ago is doing it too. But most of their modern games do this shit. Makes me appreciate something like FFX even more now.

No disrespect, but it would be off putting for characters in a medieval setting to speak with a modern Usian accent.

I believe there are theories that the general US "accent" is closer to how it was spoken in Shakespeare's time, the modern British "accents" are a relatively recent affectation.

But I also get a lot of conflicting information on this, so take it with a grain of salt.

Doubtful. Considering you can read Shakespeare and the language is different.

I always think less of people that complain about these localizations.
They have flavor and soul and aren't just packed with modern memes and verbage.

I really hope they ignore all the complainers for future remakes and new games and keep using this style. It feels distinctly Dragon Quest to me.

The funniest part of that is you later listen to dialogue from actually ancient characters like Emet-Selch and none of them talk like that. So he's not even really speaking in an antiquated manner, he just likes Shakespeare.

You can crank that up to 100%

As far as I can tell, GoT is the first appearance of the word "Ser" in that context and everything after that is kind of a snowball. Words like "gaol" were really uncommon even when they were in use but at least they were used by real people in real conversations hundreds of years ago.

It's like localizers read GoT, then looked up some old English words and were basically like "oh, old English just means spelling everything wrong and weird"

idk about the rest, but dragon quest got a little more british and punny than i'd like, and paired with the dragon ball art, it feels like a totally different series than the dragon warrior i grew up with, but i digress

I find the modern usage of sirrah funny, since it meant "little sir" and was a term you used to address children or social inferiors. If you used it to address anyone of knightly rank, it would be a pretty grievous insult.
