How is the Turian counselor ranked higher than the Asari?

I guess i just hate that guy a lot more than others do.

And yeah, Jacob is the worst aquadmate (Morinth wasnt ever on my squad). He is just boring, not as skilled, and gives bad advice to go with his bad attitude.

Although I maintain that Jacob is not as bad as his reputation in the fanbase, Ill take the occasion to mention that he gets the worst of the jealous lines from Liara in the Shadowbroker DLC, if your Shepard romanced Liara in the first game and then someone else in the second.

In theory, having a 'normal' guy among a bunch of wacky murderers could be fun, but it's like the writers made every possible choice to get the player to dislike Jacob. He's boring, he's cold to Shep and doesn't want to open up (realistic but we're in a hero power fantasy here), he antagonises other characters that the player already likes, and he makes poor decisions. By ME3 I'm sure they deliberately leaned into the fan response and made him comically bad.

Also I'd say it works with Javik because Javik is battle hardened by already having faced The Reapers. He's the last of his kind. He's understandably jaded. It works because his attitude isn't just shitty.

Jacob on the other hand just has kind of a shitty attitude all the time.

Context matters. And while Jacob has a history with Geth, when he says it we don't get that at all.

Urdnot Wrex's brother. If Wrex dies or is never recruited, Wreav leads the Krogan. He's a lot more conservative than his brother, and doesn't make for a great leader. If Wrex is alive, however, Wreav doesn't appear until Mass Effect 3 when he objects to the appearance of Mordin (or Padok Wiks). Wreav isn't a great character, but as far as replacements go he has a massive impact. Wreav isn't as suited as Wrex is, and has a different stance on issues. Curing the Genophage under Wreav may not be advisable, especially if you destroyed Maelons Data.

Ive played a few runs where Wrex is dead and I have Wreav, and I could not tell you a single thing about him. The most underwritten replacement character of all time. - ZenOfThunder

Talitha I believe only appears if Shepard has the colonist background. Talitha was in the same colony on Minoir as colonist-born Shepard, and was captured in the raid and turned into a Batarian Slave. Shepard can talk her down, and even receive a letter from her in Mass Effect 2. She spent thirteen years as a slave. It's a bit of a heartwarming moment for Colonist Shepard to talk to her, especially as a paragon.

An ex-Cerberus scientist and love interest for Jacob. If you rescue her and the other scientists, she joins the Crucible project. She was pretty high up in the Cerberus ranks. Though I've always found it weird how many Cerberus are just decent people, given how evil they are in 2/3rds of the games. They're a terrorist organization, and in the first game are presented a pretty terrible group.

Probably her best version is if you played FemShep and had a ship with Jacob. She proves herself to be a real go-getter type. Inspiring! We should all follow her example. When you know what you want, go for it! - kateee

Chairman Burns is a member of the Parliamentary Subcommittee for Transhuman studies. He voted against paying reparations to L2 Biotics with severe health problems, which leads to him being kidnapped by the Biotics. Despite being kidnapped, if he survives he comes to understand the desperation of the L2 Biotics and vows to get them the help they need. And come Mass Effect 2, unlike most politicians, he stays true to his word. He gets a good bit of development for a very minor character, leading to a mostly happy ending.

Vendetta is a Prothean VI on Thessia that has important information about The Catalyst. However, when it detects Reaper Presence, it determines that it is too late for this cycle. It knew about Javik's mission, and will react to Javik. It gets captured by Kai Leng, and taken to the Illusive Man. I feel like bringing Javik along when you meet Vendetta adds a LOT to the game, to the point where it's a damn shame it was originally DLC.

Commander Shepard's mother. At least if Shepard is of the Spacer background. She gave birth to one of the biggest badasses in the galaxy. And that's gotta count for something. She doesn't play a major role -- or one at all if Shepard is not of the Spacer background. She was offered a position as Admiral, but decided to remain a Captain. She's none to happy that she had to learn her child was alive from Alliance Brass, instead of from Shepard themselves. She also works on the Crucible Project. If she's anything like her Child, the Reapers are lucky she didn't get more involved.

Westmoreland is one of the alliance officers on the Normandy guarding the conference room. She's very opinionated, but there's not really much else to her character. As far as Normandy Crew go, she's not as memorable as most of the others. Probably doesn't help that she's only in Mass Effect 3.

Richard Jenkins, part of the OG Squad with Shepard and Kaidan. Only he lasts for about five minutes. He's not actually named after Leroy Jenkins. But he very well could be. One wonders how the series might have went if Jenkins had survived. Shepard can recall Jenkins at certain points in the series. Which is probably more than most people do. It's easy to forget about him, even if he's part of that OG Team.

Hilarious. - ZenOfThunder

I just wanted to use this opportunity to float an idea that I had once. Suppose that instead of Kai Leng being Kai Leng, he was really Richard Jenkins, recovered and revived by the Illusive Man just like Shepard? People seem to really hate Kai Leng, and I've always wondered if a little twist like this might have improved the character's reception, or if it's just too much of a hackneyed idea. - VectorAgent

A Krogan Warlord who was cloning Krogan. His beliefs were so extreme, he was kicked off Tuchanka. He wanted to breed out weak genes, and felt absolute numbers weren't necessary to conquer the galaxy. He bred Grunt, who would go on to serve Commander Shepard. He revered the Rachnii.

This guy has one of the single best lines in the entire series: "I say let us carry the genophage! Let a thousand die in a clutch. We will defeat it by climbing atop our dead. That is the Krogan way." Badass. - VectorAgent

Geth VI is a replacement for Legion in the event you sold him to Cerberus or he otherwise died. He is not Legion, though. And with him, a peaceful solution is unavailable. Alec Ryder is the father of the Ryder twins. He was recruited into the Andromeda Initiative as a Pathfinder. He's voiced by Clancy Brown which is pretty cool for sci-fi fans. As an Andromeda character, I'm only somewhat familiar with him. His appearance can be tailored to match that of the main character of Andromeda. He also fought in the first contact war with the Turians.

Oh we're getting into proper names now, I should get those writeups done.

Okeer is neat, I forgot to rank him but I'd put him fairly high for how limited he is. I like Reyes a lot, his moral ambiguity stands out among Andromeda's chirpy group of pals.

Okeer was in my bottom 10 or 15. He was a good side villain in that he was very not likable.

But hey he outranks his human counterpart Henry Lawson for me.

The Volus Ambassador on the Citadel. He doesn't trust humanity very much. Despite that, he still worked with Cerberus, and in Mass Effect 3 offers the Volus Bombing Fleet -- though he can also tell you where Cerberus is going to attack next. Not the highest rated Volus, though the species isn't quite as popular as some of the others.

Jedore is a blue suns mercenary working for Warlord Okeer. She is ultimately disappointed by the tank-bred Krogan and turn on both Okeer and Shepard. Big mistake on her part, at least for the latter portion of that. She spends a lot of time on the intercoms during the mission, much to her subordinates displeasure.

A loathsome criminal who killed Kasumi Goto's partner Keiji. He hosts a lavish party, where he has many famous artifacts including the head of the statue of liberty. He demands tributes in order for people to get into his party. He also has Michaelangelo's David.

I always do Kasumis loyalty mission early to get the dope SMG, and part of the mission is listening to this dude give his speech. I LOVE his voice. Hes a stock Bond villain and they totally nailed it. Very memorable. - ZenOfThunder

Miranda's genetically identical younger sister. Though the two do not look identical She's also voiced by Laura Bailey instead of Yvonne Strahovsky. Oriana takes Miranda's place if Miranda does not survive Mass Effect 2. If Miranda survives, she instead discovers her father kidnapped her. She can leave video logs about Sanctuary just like her sister does.

More of a plot device than a character. - ZenOfThunder

Donovan Hock is a great cheesy one-off villain. Might be the highlight of Kasumi's Loyalty Mission.

Rita is a Waitress at Flux. She's worried about her sister who works for C-Sec, and asks Shepard to help her out. She doesn't play a huge role, but it's some decent experience for a pretty easy quest that adds a little to the overall feel of the game.

Major Coats first appeared in the trailer for Mass Effect 3. Nobody knew who he was. He spent three days inside Big Ben. He doesn't play a major role in the game, despite his prominent status in the trailer. Which I've always found kind of weird. But he does show up in the game for a bit, and is on the radio as well. He provides cover fire for Shepard and Anderson.

Lieutenant Gregory Adams is the Chief Engineer aboard the Normandy in Mass Effect and Mass Effect 3. Missing out only on Mass Effect 2 because he refused to work for Cerberus. Tali notes his absence in Mass Effect 2. He doesn't play a huge role, despite being a crew member, and isn't quite as memorable as some of the other crew. But he's right about one thing - the Normandy is the best ship.

Chorban is a Salarian who is collecting information on the Keepers. Shepard can either kill him, or agree to scan the keepers for him. He relays the information he found to Shepard in Mass Effect 2, which provides some pretty important lore. Outside of the keepers, he doesn't play a major role, and isn't mentioned in Mass Effect 3.

Ahh yes "Reapers". Probably one of the best memes to come out of Mass Effect. Sparatus is responsible for it. He's kind of a dick, especially to Shepard. No matter what choices you make, he will berate you for them. Save the Rachni? You've just unleashed hell on the galaxy! Kill the Rachni Queen? You committed Genocide! Sparatus requires hard evidence to believe anything. He's convinced that Sovereign was just a really advanced Geth Ship. Typical bureaucrat. However, he gets some really nice development in Mass Effect 3, where he's among the first to offer Shepard help, and recognize the Reaper threat. For a minor character who most people don't remember the name of, he's definitely extremely memorable. The biggest regret is you can't say to him "Ahh yes, "reapers" in ME3. Placing higher? We've already dismissed that claim.
