Got a house this year. There's so many things I want to do idk where I'll find the time and money lol but list, besides just like, need to hang wall art still and bunch of indoor plants - setup a greenhouse - landscaping/gardening in general. want a semi wild back garden with native plants and winding paths - pergola like cover on the deck with vines - wisteria on a wall outside that we can see from the TV sitting area that's pretty plain - wallpaper + general put together the dining room (rug, new lighting, some side table, etc) - redo kitchen (it's white modern right now and perfectly fine and good so hard to justify the cost but I would prefer something more farmhouse y or eclectic / character -- got a nice bench of a getting ready area in it right now though) - redo bathrooms (same deal as kitchen, modern grey marble like now, would like tiles with colour and character, but hard to justify) - maaaaybe paint living room but the dark blue has grown on me so pretty low priority - replace lighting - possibly do something with the stairs and hallway - carpet... idk might keep the upstairs one for sound dampening, though I don't love carpet. the carpet that is up there is nice at least. - might do some Photoshop to see if putting stained glass stick ons for the conservatory is a good idea or not... it doesn't have a pretty view (driveway, garage, fence) so thinking that might make it nicer. or look terrible lol idk. also just get that set up properly with a nice reading and cat relaxing room vibe - replace basically all the doors (they're pretty shit), get some stained glass for the front door - catio - add a mantle above the fireplace - maybe add wall paneling (idk what it's called, not like wood but raised parts in squares or rectangles ya know?) in various places I'm about to leave the country for the rest of the year so that will have to wait though. oh and need to replace the roof first which isn't fun and is expensive but yeah --- kriem ... My entire fucking home. I just had one bedroom repainted, and the attached closet swapped from carpet to laminate flooring. I'm probably going to be working on a few minor repairs in my upstairs bathroom soon, and I'm talking to my go-to contractor about redoing my entire kitchen (pretty much gutting it straight to the frame and starting over from scratch). And at some point I want to get him to take a look at my roof and see if it still looks in good shape or needs upkeep. Beyond that, I'm sort of considering redoing my front porch/entry area into a combination cloak room and sitting room/solarium sort of deal. I might also replace some older furniture soon. I've already replaced a lot of stuff in my office area last year, and I just swapped out my living room furniture about a month or so ago. --- "Wall of Text'D!" --- oldskoolplayr76 "POwned again." --- blight family ... I need to replace some steps in the basement. Old house with a very roughly poured, thin, concrete floor so water has been seeping up for decades and finally did enough damage to the bottom stairs that I need to replace them. Eventually need to do new siding. Already did windows, doors, roof and HVAC so the siding is the last major project on the list now. New oven at some point. Dishwasher and fridge have already been replaced, so the oven is the last major appliance that came with the house. We bought the house in '09 and the oven wasn't new even then. Bit of a shame since it is old enough to not be entirely digital and likely could get repaired except it is nearly impossible to get parts. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Lokarin posted... I need to do some dishes, but that's about it... How is this a thing that can even happen? Do you not eat off your dishes? One would assume you'd have to rotate stuff out of your drying rack eventually. I mean, I kind of get it - I've been rewashing old pots and pans that have been sitting in my cabinet for like years without me having used them for anything (in the process of trying to downsize some of my silverware/cutlery/cookware/etc), so I get idea of rewashing things that are ostensibly clean but which have just been sitting around unused for so long they're kind of not anymore. And that you definitely use some things more than others. But I feel like if I had dishes sitting in my drying rack for months, at some point I'd eventually wind up using them for something, or at least put them back in the cabinet. --- "Wall of Text'D!" --- oldskoolplayr76 "POwned again." --- blight family ... Or maybe it just attacks your foes. Or scratches your back. I would totally pay for a back-scratching robot claw, honestly. grimhilde00 posted... solariums are fun. how much is the kitchen remodel costing you out of curiosity? Not sure yet. We're still in the talking/planning phase. I could easily see it running somewhere around 20k (or more) though. It depends on how much "gut it to the frame and rebuilt it from scratch" is going to cost. I basically want to replace everything other than my microwave and toaster oven/air fryer. And he's trying to talk me into moving one of the doors in the kitchen to another part of the wall (to free up an extra corner), but I'm kind of set on keeping it the way it is. At one point I was also thinking about cutting out a half-wall and having it be counter space that would overlap with the room next door (which would then be a dining room), but I'm kind of cooling on that idea because nobody really wants or uses dining rooms anymore. And if I'm honest with myself, I probably wouldn't use it for much myself. So I'm leaning towards turning that wall into a sort of counter nook area with barstool seats for eating. I actually went through this planning phase once before about a year ago with a different contractor, but the guy I talked to then was like "I'll have my secretary draw up some different plans and we can figure out which one works best for what you want". And then I never heard from him again. He could be dead for all I know. But it was a free consultation so I wasn't overly bothered. And life complications cropped up in the meantime anyway, so it was probably a good thing he didn't start the project then. If nothing else, my current guy actually seems to be much more on my wavelength as to what I want to do with it, but he's also booked up with other major jobs until next year, so we're not in a rush to finalize all the details yet. The current design idea is basically like open central space, countertop space all around the periphery, high cabinets about halfway around, and maybe a pantry area (though I'm still dithering on that). Because of how the doors are laid out, it currently breaks down into having a u-shaped segment of counter-space (which is where the sink/stove/dishwasher/refridgerator would be slotted into), and then one straight wall (which is what I'm looking at to be straight diner-style counter as the eating nook). I'm also STRONGLY fighting the urge to make the floor black-and-white checkered tile, because that's my mental image of what kitchen floor should look like from years of TV, cartoons, and video games (and the board from Clue). --- "Wall of Text'D!" --- oldskoolplayr76 "POwned again." --- blight family ... There's a lot that could be done around here, and that sort of thing does fall on my shoulders. A month or so ago, I trimmed back the mulberry tree that was scraping against the siding. I didn't know it had regrown far enough to do that until my brother gave me a heads up. Couple weeks ago I caulked a gap along the outer wall, resulting in significantly improved heat retention in my dad's room. Last week I put in one of those Tushy Bidets you may have seen advertised. I like the idea of reducing waste, and it has cut my TP usage. Today I ripped down the duct tape wall patch that I put over a big hole in the wall some years ago. The hole was from decades ago when my dad fixed a burst frozen pipe. There's another gap in the outside wall near there that I plan on caulking up tomorrow; there's a fair bit of cold air coming through right now. It's bad enough to see daylight through it from inside. Some that I've been putting off for a long while include replacing the drywall that stained/moulded due to a leaky toilet. I solved the leak by replacing the wax doughnut (used one of those inexpensive rubber ones), but still have the ugly stained/moldy drywall. The mold is all dead, but it's still ugly. I'm also considering putting up some drywall over that hole in the wall over the long ago mended pipe I mentioned earlier. Outside, the walk to the bird feeders is kinda treacherous, especially when wet/snowy. It's at an incline and I want to try and level it off with some digging. I'd also like to make a smokeless firepit in the yard, but that's more far out goal. --- Every time you make Actual Intelligence look bad, Artificial Intelligence gets pushed that much harder. ... grimhilde00 posted... uh I definitely use it and it was something I looked for when buying I'm mostly judging from articles like this one: https://www.elyson.com/blog/posts-by-date/2020/february/is-the-formal-dining-room-dead-it-s-complicated/ It was a big thing years ago, where there was a lot of talk about how younger generations really weren't interested in a formal dining room, and would generally prefer to eat at a kitchen table/nook area, or literally in their living room in front of the TV off a coffee table or similar set-up. Which is hard for me to argue, because I don't think I've eaten at an actual kitchen table for years, let alone in a full dining room. And some went so far as to suggest that having a designated dining room area could potentially subtract value from the home because it would discourage some buyers who had no intention of ever using it (with the implication that people were more likely to convert it into something else). It might be changing now that Millennials are older and Gen Z is added into the mix, but as far as I can tell, the overall mindset still seems to be that the idea of having actual family dinners together at a single table or entertaining for friends and family as part of a formal dining experience seems to be dying off for most people. And with it, the need for a dining room. I used to have plans in mind years ago to have a linked kitchen/dining room set up with the half-wall between them (for ease of transfer, and a huge plus for optional buffet-style serving), and with a large sliding glass door off the side to my side yard, where I wanted to put in a patio area (with a tiki bar) for outdoor dining and barbecuing. But I just never really got around to that, and at this point I probably never will. It's just sort of lost its luster as I get older and my desire to ever really entertain for other people just slowly decreases. grimhilde00 posted... it's actually making a comeback, especially if it's diamond oriented looking rather than square. My grandma had a basement with a pool table and that's just goals for me. sadly, the proposed places I've suggested for pool tables here (dining room, part of living room -- I mostly jest these are bad ideas I just want a pool table lol) have not been well received. ParanoidObsessive posted... having actual family dinners together at a single table or entertaining for friends and family as part of a formal dining experience seems to be dying off for most people. well that's just sad and I will not be a part of it but again, you do you! ParanoidObsessive posted... I can see the appeal of the diagonal look, but it doesn't scratch the weird part of my brain the more classic design does: this is kinda the look I like (probably/def AI cause everything sucks these days but still like the vibe) https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/forum/7/738dbd3e.jpg but yeah even non-diamond ones, I've seen checked again back in style these days though it's less my personal taste it is back in fashion right now and like with the dining room, make your home your home imo if you're not planning on selling for awhile. I'll be making some bold wallpaper choices that won't be everyone's cup of tea but I plan to stay here until I'm too old for the stairs then downsize. hockey7318 posted... I never even thought about the fact we don't have a formal dining room. That feels like something that was only necessary for my parents generation. I mean that's practically a dining "area" if you can put a full table there --- kriem ... Copied to Clipboard!

I like how the windows are totally different designs. The two cabinets on the far side of the room on either side of the second sink both open the same direction. And what the heck is with the knobs on those... drawercabinets? --- Minutus cantorum, minutus balorum, Minutus carborata descendum pantorum. ... Copied to Clipboard!
