For all this talk of the Wii making video games less niche, it still didn't outsell the PS2 or even PS1, so it can't have brought that many new players in, and most people who weren't gamers and bought Wii Fit or whatever probably didn't stick around.
You gotta look at attach rates. The Wiis top 7 games all outsold every game on PS2. In terms of selling games it was unmatched til the Switch.
