The Legend of Zelda, hailed as a classic, one of the greatest, was basically unplayable if you didn't have the right copy of Nintendo Power (no internet back then)

Link to the Past established the formula that the series stuck to for years, for better and for worse.

Ocarina of Time was just LttP3D, with a much smaller inventory and terrible level designs.

Majora's Mask was hailed as a masterpiece for years, a game that involves getting stuck in a time loop and playing through the same events over and over again.

Wind Waker was panned for being ugly, then hailed as a visual masterpiece, then panned again when people got over the graphics and realized it was just OoT all over again.

Twilight Princess was panned for being generic and gimmicky, then hailed as the high fantasy Zelda people said they wanted for years, then it became "At least it's not Skyward Sword"

Skyward Sword was hated form day one and still considered the worst of the franchise. Naturally it's one of the ones I like and I'm pretty sure most of the hate comes from the fact that it screwed up everyone's timeline.

Breath of the Wild is hailed as something new and original, despite being Assassin's Creed with Link patched in and survival/crafting elements from Ark.

Basically Zelda fans are bat-shit crazy and have no idea what they want or like. The games for the most part are pretty good as long as you don't marathon them like a series because then you realize it's pretty much all the same anyway.
