There are a lot of people (like me) who keep away from any political discussion with a 10 foot barge pole (because any non-comforming opinion is bannable) and enjoy other aspects of the site. The OTs have some very knowledgeable posters and often comments from devs, particularly from smaller games. Some of the social boards for particular games (e.g. LoL, Hearthstone) or niche interests (for me, tennis) are as good a way of finding intelligent chat about your game/interest as anywhere on the net. Because the site isn't specifically about anything other than "Gaming" and "Other" you don't get many nuts that would hang around a board on their specific interest all day spamming nonsense. The vibe can be very B8-like if you're far away from the eye-catching OT social justice/political crap.
