Once Microsoft has a better understanding of the development team and the state of the game (WC3), they might pivot to creating a new RTS. But considering that WC3 is in disarray at the moment, I doubt they would launch another RTS. SC2 started promisingly but the end release was a letdown for many, and its competitive scene is very much scaled down. It would take a lot of comittment from Microsoft if they wanted to create WC4, spanning years and years. WC3 does have a professional scene and dedicated casters who keep the game alive, but they are moreso content on what they have rather than wanting a competely new RTS. RTS in general is a hard sell for many gamers, I would argue that the learning curve is just too demanding. I think one glimmer of hope is the China scene. WC3 was very popular in China, and if Microsoft is interested in that market, there is a possibility of a new WC game.
