A person I know had a mini meltdown and broke up with a GF of his. From looking at his texts, he told the girl to commit suicide and that he hopes the worst happens to her.

Just curious but in general: Can you go to prison or jail for telling someone to commit suicide? Or is it completely okay/safe to say anything, even via text, as long as the other person doesn't go through with it?
