Neopets and AOL chatrooms were what I lived for back then.
Lycos chat, icq, AOL chatrooms, then finally Yahoo chatrooms until they took it down. Not much into it now. Why did Yahoo take theirs down btw? Those dateline shows or something?
I went into one, and then my mom saw and kicked me off the computer XD

Nobody actually said "a/s/l" back then on AOL. Never have I seen that used in the chat rooms. Not once. It wasn't until I ventured out onto the internet in general, outside of AOL, that I started seeing that. What I DO remember a lot of was "age/sex check" in the AOL chat rooms. Unfortunately, every time I mention this, nobody seems to have any memory of it.

No. I've never seen "a/s/l". And it's maddening that nobody seems to remember "age/sex check". Is this a generational thing or something? Maybe it switched over sometime during the early-/mid-2000s.
On Yahoo! Chat, during the late-90s or so, I do remember a/s/l, kinda. But never on AOL's chat rooms. They had their own thing. I can't recall seeing it on mIRC though, although I wouldn't be surprised...
oh AOL...those were the days.
