I personally prefer Solid Snake. He will always be the true protagonist of the franchise for me. I like him more because he's a loner. More quiet. Doesn't care about romance much, like Big Boss. He likes to keep it to himself. And he's just way more badass overall. I don't think there will ever be a better character than him.

Snake was the most honest coolest dude in the series.

Snake was cooler. Hitting on chicks over the codec and just generally being awesome.
Mgs3 is the best game in the series by far but solid snake was cooler imo. At least in 1 and 2

mgs is my favorite series of all time, i think solid snake may be the better character but big boss clearly has the best games made around him, or it could be venom snake since he has the greatest game mgsv, of all time made around him

MGS is legendary Snake, hitting on bitches while on a solo mission to stop a nuclear Armageddon, making girls who have hated him since the moment they knew about fall mad in hells over him, made girls he literally just killed fall in love with him. Just ultimate badass.

Solid Snake. Big Boss is great too, but ultimately I prefer Solid as the hero.
Their goodbye in MGS4 might still be my favorite in the whole series, though.

Solid Snake the whole way. Big Boss was good in 3, but I believe that's where his time in the limelight should have ended. Snake is the hero of the series, the original protagonist, and I hate that it seems Kojima gave Boss more games and more time as the series went on.
