Easily could backfire as many shelters offer end of life services. So could remind your date of a terrible event.

Only if she's some kind of animal fanatic, otherwise this could be bad. I would not like it if a girl wanted to take me to an animal shelter.

TC are there any animal cafes near you? Those can be nice for playing with animals but in a non-depressing environment.

If you and her both bond over a love of animals, then for a much further down the line date, you two could volunteer at a shelter by walking the dogs.
