SMT did it first in 1987, then Dragon Quest 5 did it in the early 90s >_>Nethack came out in March of 1987, SMT came out in September of 1987. Nethack did monster catching first.
SMT is older than I am? What?Yeah, first it was the light novel called Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei in 1986, then came the NES adaptation/pseudo-sequel game called Megami Tensei in 1987, which had the demon recruitment and negotiation.
I've only played some of 5 (intend to beat it just haven't gotten much time to play lately), as well as persona 5 and 5 royal. I've played about 1/3rd of 4 Golden as well.
Nethack came out in March of 1987, SMT came out in September of 1987. Nethack did monster catching first.Huh, I never knew that. Neat!
If no one else can replicate it I don't think it's luck.Right?
Right?Because any game that tries just gets brushed off as a pokemon clone and isn't given a fair chance.
if its as easy as make the same game but better! How come nobody has ever done that?

I take it no-one actually liked ORAS or Sun/Moon according to TC's insistence that Pokemon hasn't been good in over a decade?ORAS was great on account of being Hoenn remakes

So don't play it and stop bitching about it.
Jade CocoonNever heard of the first three, but after a quick Google youve got the first two that came out in 1998, so they werent brushed off as Pokmon clones.. they legitimately were Pokmon clones. And then Siralim, from the looks of it, isnt better than Pokmon. Ive never played it, but a quick look at the reviews make it seem like it lacks the heart of what makes Pokmon great.
Dragon Warrior Monsters
Siralim
Digimon
Sounds like you have some examples in mind? Do we have a stan of, uh... what were the pokemon clones?I don't have any off the top of my head, but I recall it happening. Unfortunately I don't play pokemon or similar games so I can't really comment on the substance of the games and what works in similar games.

as for digimon, it never really had much similarities to Pokmon besides the monsters
I don't think any "Pokemon clone" ever had a character as immediately charming as Pikachu, that's the whole thing right there
Dragon Quest Monsters might have began in 98 but its based on elements of gameplay in earlier Dragon Quest games. Which predate Pokemon . Apparently in Dragon Quest 5 specifically, you can catch and train monsters . Dragon Quest 5 released in Japan in 1992
The Slime from Dragon Quest is possibly more famous than Pikachu in Japan
The Slime from Dragon Quest is possibly more famous than Pikachu in JapanEven if that were the case, Pikachu is immensely popular the world over, not just in Japan, whereas DQ is only really that big in Japan
Is CE still seething about everyone like Legends Arceus?Pretty much
