Long story short, severe pneumonia that he thought was something else, died for a little while in the living room yesterday.

Paramedics broke 8 of his ribs doing CPR.

He's in the ICU, no idea if he'll still be him when he wakes up.

I'm not handling it well.

There's brain swelling on the CT because of oxygen deprivation but we won't know what it looks like until he wakes up.

Yes, it is extremely common to break a bunch of ribs while doing CPR, especially since it's mostly old people >_> I feel them pop a lot while doing the compressions and it always feels weird.

There isn't anything at the moment.

Depending on what activity shows up they might order an MRI or CT but I'm not very hopeful.

quite frankly most people don't

CPR should be illegal for anyone over 80 for this reason

I've never seen anyone over that age survive compressions > 5 minutes

It's a nuance the public doesn't know. I don't have OP's dad's chart in front of me but pneumonia + CPR with that many broken ribs is a long road for recovery for even the healthy folk. Rough times.

Sorry to hear. Losing a parent is never an easy thing.

Pneumonia can be a real ass. I lost a coworker at the beginning of the year due to it. He made it to the hospital but within hours had to be ventilated and then went septic.
