Feels like I'm playing a Disney movie.
Vibes are quaint.

Though, Zidane is just Locke but monke.

At least you get to enjoy FF when it was still quality pre-merger. That run of 6,7,9,10 was just top tier to me.

Its definitely a different vibe compared to 7/8/10, but I still love that game. I gotta replay it again.

Yeah, I'm using them. I don't have enough time after work and bed to really spend a lot of time on games, so those features are very welcome.

The vast, vast, vast majority of things you steal can be gotten through other means. I'd have booted Zidane as a mainstay in my party if I could.

Yeah, but by the point you can get the good stuff via alternate methods, it's no longer as good relative to scaling.

Who cares if you can buy a Mage Masher if you can steal it a good 5+ hours earlier, and by the time you could have bought it you could have also stolen the upgrade? That and using Steal with Zidane until you get everything is basically the only way to not run over every boss as he's OP in the easiest game in the series.

Also, every (that I remember) boss has three things, so don't stop until you've got all three. Especially since the rarest thing can take a bit + is usually some piece of insane (for the time) gear.

*Both* are OP. The reason FFIX is the easiest mainline FF is because everyone is OP. It's just that Zidane is trivially OP while who you mentioned requires actually doing their homework.

And stealing is fun. There is a grant total of one boss, you know exactly which one, that it takes any real amount of time to steal from.

Yeah, that's my feelings so far. It's good enough to keep my interest, and everything is so far well written enough for me to consider it good. But the main cast isn't as likeable as the casts from the other games I've played. I like Vivi, Garnet, and Freya. But that's about it so far. I do really love the atmosphere and the art style for the locations, though.

Also, I knew who Kuja was through Dissidia and stuff, but I didn't know he was the villain in this game. So seeing him show up kinda gave me whiplash lol.

Probably this is my own bias and admittedly foggy memory of both games but Zidane had a lot more depth and development. So he's not just Locke with a tail, he's a better and more endearing Locke with a tail.

IXs my favorite story wise, which basically makes it my favorite. The battle system is pretty basic. It was fortunate I played it for the first time back when it came out and I was still really bad at jrpgs in general. Kind of artificially made it more engaging in a way since I struggled with pretty much every boss.

When I was younger I had a bad habit of running from as many battles as I felt like I could get away with in jrpgs because I was always in a hurry to get to the next story beat. I tended to be under leveled and undergeared.

I'm looking forward to seeing him develop a bit then.

I mean, he already does have more depth than Locke, which is great, but he still seems kinda generic to me. I do appreciate how considerate and empathetic he can be so far, esp with Vivi's whole thing.

That's probably because you didn't put on bandit and master thief. Those both make stealing less garbage.

And if argue that Zidane becoming overpowered is easier than the other person you mentioned since you have to stop and grind for it to work with the other person. You don't with Zidane.
FFIX? For Quina eat?

For the record TC, you're going to miss a lot of shit and you have to be cool with that. Like, if you end up agreeing with the universal truth that ff9 is the best video game ever made and you just wanna go back and perfect your file when you beat it, you can't. You have to start a new game. Which is fine, since it's the best game ever made.

Tbf and h he's my favorite FF protagonist, and by quite a lot, in my favorite FF so my opinions on him could be slightly exaggerated. But yeah, he's just so.. decent. Someone I'd wanna be friends with.

I need to replay that again sometime, it's been.. shit, 13 years since I last beat it.

You can't use either of those abilities early on. And the only OP ability I think Zidane has (outside of steal) is super grindy. I'd argue it's more grindy than anything the other person I mentioned would have to do.
You don't need it. You are actually signalling that you don't know how steal works in that game. The best ability for Zidane doesn't require a ton of grinding. It's literally a formula based on steals, and for a measly 8 mp can do unresisted damage safely from the back row.

It's definitely not more friendly than frog drop. It's less gimmicky than limit glove. Night shenanigans is probably more useful over the course of the game than either of the powerful things from them.

Oh, nvm. I'm not actually interested.

What was Quinas OP move again? The.. frog collecting thing? I forget.

I don't remember that well but the ability based on steal always struck me as something that would only be useful if you grinded it out all at once early on or just much later in the game, and then only if you steal in basically every or almost every encounter along the way. Which isn't a bad idea, but I pretty much only stole from bosses. I don't think I understood how a few of his abilities worked or what they were for until much later in life.

His trance abilities in particular.

I read on Google that it takes 400 steals at max speed stat, roughly level 50, to max thievery .

Compared to the frog thing that seems like it would take a lot longer.

So are you shitposting or did you just not play the game? Asking how Zidane is a simp would be like asking how Steiner is an idiot. It's pretty much axiomatic.
See now this is why I said I wasn't actually interested in pursuing it. But fine. First off it'd be useful to know what's the bar, in your opinion, for what makes a character a simp? As opposed to like.. just a crush or in love or something. When does it stop being one and start being the other?

Right? That's what I was thinking when I asked. Even skimming through the various different definitions of what a "simp" specifically is it just seems off. Or its use here is so broad it could apply to basically any character in in any story that has any sorta romance.

But I didn't wanna derail the topic into the semantics of how slang is used so I moved on to the abilities.
Simping, to me, implies an element of compromising yourself to meet a certain expectation. Zidane was always just being Zidane, it's not his fault he's got the rizz

Yep. That's how I remember it, anyway. I was expecting to have to post that image myself at some point but you saved me the trouble, lol.

Zidane's a simp for everyone? I guess that could fit. See, compromise.

Locke was basically a simp but he had a backstory reason for it.

Like, he was kinda one dimensional, but all of FF6 gave off like a theater opera vibe where everyone had a single character trait that they leaned into, so it worked.

Zidane seems more fleshed out, in comparison, but still just kinda generic so far.

If Zidane steals every other turn in combat, you'd have it doing 3,000 to 4000 right off the bat. Frog drop uses quinas's level as part of the damage algorithm. So an average playthrough you'd finish around 40 - 55. Just for the sake of being nice, you'd have to collect something like 200 frogs to power it up. Meanwhile Zidane needs like 400 - 500 steals, which is way more natural than going out of your way to do a mini game that actually takes real life time to do.

also, quina healing is completely rendered pointless when you could just use auto haste and auto Regen. Just use it to attack.

there's no reason to try to do 9999 damage. Ffix enemies have garbage levels of HP, and the only guy that's probably doing it naturally without any form of grinding is Steiner.

Not quite. Unlike Locke, he has a full character arc. Dare I say, he has the best character arc of any FF main character.

Highly disagree. The amount of character development that Zidane has is unmatched in the franchise, let alone in the game itself.

Nah, he's the second best in my mind. While he may have an arc that is more heartfelt, Vivi doesn't experience the same level of character development that Zidane does.
