This is what carried the movie for me. The villain and overall plot was a massive bore, but any time the 3 leads shared the screen was a blast.
It was a fun movie for sure.
Do I need to watch Ms. Marvel, the TV show?

Not really, the movie explains who she is and what she is about.

Only if you want a full in-depth story that led up to her involvement. I thought the movie did a good job of explaining enough of who they are and how they got there on its own.

No

Heres all you really need to know. Kamala khan put on a bangle, got stretchy light powers and is a huge captain marvel fan. Also at the end of ms marvel (covered in the marvels in the intro) ms marvel puts on the bangle and she vanishes but captain marvel appears where ms marvel was

thats it
Eh, I'm generally pretty forgiving and generous with my opinion of the MCU, but this one felt legitimately low tier to me

I will say that I really liked the first fight scene where the three of them were switching places, and loved that Kamala's family still got to have a presence in the movie. The three leads also had amazing chemistry with each other and were really fun to watch.

BUT

I can see why people liked the singing planet but to me it felt like an out-of-place effort to try and make Carol into a Disney Princess even though the MCU already has at least one actual superhero princess (more if you stretch the definition)

The whole subplot with Goose having babies and this being both the need to evacuate the Saber satellite AND the solution to evacuating the satellite is the very definition of unnecessary filler in a movie that's already beneath the average MCU runtime

The main plot makes no sense, how did Carol destroying the Great Intelligence lead directly to such disastrous effects such as their atmosphere depleting, oceans drying up, and even their sun burning out?

The villain is going to go down as one of the most forgettable in the MCU's history, I watched the entire movie and don't even know her name

Agreed. Khan being a Captain Marvel fangirl was also quite adorable.

I also liked how the whole conflict stems from Captain Marvel's actions where she thought she was doing good, yet unintended consequences doomed a planet.

This is true, however if the Kamala Khan you're familiar with is stretchy girl, it is not that Kamala Khan.

In the Marvels game that's who she is and you collect real comic issues reflecting their stories, so I was super confused about her powers having not watched the show, same with Monica Rambeau, who I think was introduced in a show as I had no clue as to who she was.

However, the movie does give a good explanation on it over the course of the film, so it wasn't like debilitating.

She doesn't stretch, she creates physical matter out of nothing using light, such as shields and stepping platforms.

The musical number came out of nowhere, it was good. I wondered if her singing was someone else dubbed over, but apparently Brie was a singer way back when. She even released an album, so probably was her. Really enjoyed seeing Kate Bishop again, been meaning to rewatch Hawkeye.

Agreed.

I was sitting there looking at the flergen kittens and started thinking that they should just put the SWORD agents in the flergen in the escape pod. So glad they went that route.

And the girl who plays Kamala Khan did a really good job. Im excited to see Young Avengers.

It was pretty good. The music planet was funny. The ladies were beautiful. The ending is intriguing.
In regards to the music planet, I dug the whole vibe, but especially the part with the shocked faces on Rambeau & Khan after the prince stopped singing and just started speaking normally, referring to it as being "multi/bi-lingual", I believe.

It is for all intents and purposes the exact same character. Her personality, life, costume, motivations, goals,... are all the exact same. Even her powers are 99% the same functionally with the only difference being her being able to create platforms and shields and such. So yes, it is that Kamala Khan.
In retrospect it's a shame they couldn't get her friend Bruno in the movie as well, to possibly set up Fury realizing he's a tech genius and recruiting him for Saber once he graduates high school.
I thought it was painful. Not sure if I dislike it more than Love and Thunder but its bottom tier MCU.
Let me talk to your mother. Get your mother please.
I wonder how Captain Marvel was friends with Valkyrie though, I don't recall them having any interactions before. Also did they build a new Bifrost on Earth?

I don't remember he stretching at all in the movie. Looking it up the articles talk about changing her powers. Like, yeah, she still has the bangle and her fangirl personality, however having light powers instead of stretchy powers is like an alternate version of the one I'm talking about.

Every single one of the MCU characters is an alternate version to the ones I'm familiar with, I've actually read those comics you mentioned since her debut. There have been changes made to all of them. The Avengers game was simply MCU The Game except for Kamala. Welcome to the club of every single person familiar with the source material.
Yeah, it was a decent watch. Definitely not the worst as youtubers like to claim. But the villain was definitely the low point.

Yeah, but did they change something as essential as their powers? Like I get that Thanos in the comics wants to fuck Death and that's why he finger snaps half the universe as a tribute to her (I'm glad they changed this, what a stupid motivation), but that's not the same as if they gave Iron man actual innate powers instead of being the Marvel Bruce Wayne. Or if Thor was the god of thunderclaps and sound, not lightning, with everything else being the same.

I'm not saying they're not allowed to do it, it's just that you're arguing it's essentially the same person when their powers are literally not the same and people keep talking about her stretching/having those powers when it's not in the MCU.

I haven't watched the show, only the movie, however nobody's countered saying she stretches in the show. People seem to just be shoving her still having those powers in the MCU when she does not.

My whole point was that knowing her as stretchy girl made it confusing that she's now light-based powers girl instead and I'm justified in that confusion having not watched the show.

IIRC it was actually one of Kamala's creators who requested that she not stretch in the show, both because it always looks shitty in live-action and because they didn't want to give internet perverts an excuse to sexualize a minor based on her superpowers.

It's also possible that they changed them because they're introducing the Fantastic Four soon and didn't want to invest the money/CGI into two stretchy-people, and figured Reed is by far the more recognizable and iconic character with those powers. Or they wanted something that would let them give her a power more similar to Carol's so The Marvels could work as a concept.

That was an episode of What If, not the MCU's main continuity. I'm not even sure if Brynnhilde ever actually met Tony before the final Endgame battle, and obviously she wouldn't have met him after.

Not after Ragnarok. She left Sakaar with Thor and Bruce, fought in Asgard, and then fled the destruction on their ship. After Thanos wiped out half of the Asgardians she was the de facto king while Thor was incapable of leading, and then became the official king afterward.

If I had to guess when she met Carol and established a rapport, it was probably after the war when they were dealing with the immediate fallout, or during the five years of the Blip.
I enjoyed it. I thought the villain was a little flat but otherwise enjoyed the chemistry, the fight scenes were good (the constant shifting was unique) and got some legit laughs out of me. The singing planet was great. Waaaayyyyy too overhated for no reason.

Ah, I misread. Comment retracted.
movie was flawed but i enjoy what little fun bits it had like the swapping fight imo this movie had a good story to tell but it seems it was edited out of it as this video says this movie is a victim of crappy editing from the suits at disney
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLCvMb-jrCc
honestly a story about how flawed captain marvel is and having to deal with her regret of actions that made dar ban and that scene where she tells kamala they can't save everyone was good imo and showed not every hero is perfect and can saving them all but the editing made that scene come off so cheap
