All I know is that I remember reading somewhere that moe was started by the introduction of Rei Ayanami as a character, and that Hideaki Anno absolutely hated that he birthed that genre.

Probably why he treated Rei the way he did in the remake movies...

so my bf folded and changed his definition to mean pretty much anything

initially he also said it was cute characters that people feel like they want to protect

whats the opposite of moe? thats the shit i like

Kiryu Kazuma is moen't. gimme more things that are moen't

(i understand moe can evidently be applied to anything but i still want what would be considered moen't if going by the standard moe conventions)

Essentially, a character who don't express the typical qualities of cuteness and give off an aura of coolness slip out some sort of revelation of liking something adorable or dressing up cute for the sake of satisfying their interest.
Asocial, not introverted. Know the difference.
