hemorrhages and contusions to the head
[image snip]Regardless of the cause of death, and I am also leery about the medical examiner's report, the fact of the matter is that an unjustifiable violent assault took place. That we haven't heard anything about the teenagers that committed the assault is, to put it mildly, alarming.
Abrasions, lacerations, hemorrhages and contusions to the head.
Would this be the first time a bully has ever killed themselves?what?
what?"Nex was the bully"
EDIT: nevermind, read back further and found the context
"Nex was the bully"That's unfortunately likely. Thanks for clearing it up even further. The "what" was just some confusion after only reading the last couple posts.
"So the bully killed themselves, that'd be a first right?"
"Well..."
I mean I guess a bully may have killed themselves before, but I certainly can't recall that, normally it's the one being antagonized that resorts to that.
What may have happened is Nex was bullied and finally had enough and now all of a sudden, they're the ones being labeled the instigator. That seems far more likely than a trans kid bullying others.

The "what" was just some confusion after only reading the last couple posts.Yea, I was just clarifying in general, because painting them as the bully (who knows, there's maybe a 1% chance that's true) just seems silly, as nearly all trans kids are bullied at some point in their life. Sometimes though that are bullied grow up to be bullies, but I truly doubt this is the case here. Plus the reports that they'd come home and talk about being bullied in the weeks leading up to the altercation in the bathroom kind of goes against this notion.
So where was the proof nex wasn't the one bullying others?Multiple people beating them up is pretty good proof. Unless you think life is a movie.
So where was the proof nex wasn't the one bullying others?Basically any and all witness accounts, as well as accounts from friends/family, not to mention Nexs account of what happened.

So where was the proof nex wasn't the one bullying others? That's not how burden of proof works, honey.
Victim blaming is one of the ugliest human behaviors.

No victim blaming. Just asking a quick question. I dare ask why do people claim they were the attacker?
This weak cowards love to gang up against those they look down upon or are jealous of.
Ahh...Nothing like the good ol' Sean Hannity "Just asking questions" tactic.
Awhile ago as in... Barely over two weeks ago?
Also, you have much more like that in your post history, so...
Yeah, it's unfortunate that this happens often enough that I'm not 100% sure on who you mean either. Maybe it was Jacob Williamson? I know when that story first got shared here, a lot of the articles were using his old name.
Yeah, with how this was originally reported, it sounded like they died in the hospital as a result from the attack. I'll chock that up to being intentionally vague about an ongoing investigation. But I still hope the family can get an independent autopsy done.
Apparently the Oklahoma State Medical Examiners Office lost accreditation back in 2009 and has not been accredited ever since.
No charges will be filed in connection with the fight that happened the day before Nex Benedict, a nonbinary high school student, died by suicide in Oklahoma, the district attorney investigating the case said Thursday.
The fight in the high school bathroom appeared to be an "instance of mutual combat," Stephen Kunzweiler, Tulsa County's district attorney, said in a statement announcing his decision not to charge anyone.

"How dare they try to defend themselves from a beatdown? They are clearly just as culpable"
Their narrative, or at least one I've seen from right-wingers, is that Nex actually picked the fight with the 3 (I believe) girls who beat Nex down.
Yeah, because people are sooooo known for picking lopsided fights that the results showed they didn't stand a chance of winning.
Mutual combat? If two people agree to fight, it's fine as long as no bystanders are injured and no property gets damaged.

Seems like a ridiculous defence. As exposed in this case, when it is used to absolve bullies when their victim fights back.
That sounds like pure BS. 1800s duel shit. Manslaughter from bar fights and the like wouldnt exist if this was true. It's bullshit, but it is still used in the US legal system.

Mutual combat , a term commonly used in United States courts, occurs when two individuals intentionally and consensually engage in a fair fight,
while not hurting bystanders or damaging property. There have been numerous cases where this concept was successfully used in defense of the accused. In some cases, mutual combat may result in killings.
