Like this is legitimately one of the worst covers I've ever heard in my life. It's worse than Avril Lavigne's Chop Suey and Metallica's Ecstasy of Gold.

Yeah... I'm not a fan of anything I've heard from the Cowboy Carter Album. Respect to her for experimenting with a different genre, but these aren't doing it for me. I'm ready for old Beyonce again.

What we learned from Diddy, Weinstein etc.

People that are famous arent their cause of talent, rather because they are supported by the system. And they get that support by supporting the system with their bodies. Beyonce wasnt even the best singer in Destiny's child, yet she was the leader and the breakout star.

Stars that dont play ball get exercised. Micheal Jackson was going against the record labels, all of a sudden they made up stories about him diddling children, even though he had support from many people defending him. Diddy has no defenders, cause he was definitely a diddler.

I thought it was pretty bad but I had never listened to Avril's Chop Suey until now and I don't think anything is going to beat that.

Someone wanting to steal Jay Z is almost as unbelievable as someone stealing a man from Dolly Parton so I dunno, guess it works.

I haven't listened yet, but I admit reviews gave me a pause when a lot of them seem to use a factory stamped "Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson give their approval!" stock praise. I don't know if anybody has been paying attention, lately, but Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson will appear on pretty much anything, as long as you pay them. That literally tells me nothing about the music.

I didn't understand the hate at first, but there are some incredibly awkward lyrics after the first minute that definitely ruin it. I like the idea of the cover in theory, but the writing could have been greatly improved.

The video of her just haphazardly pouring more booze into the mug from a hip flask is also just super fuckin' weird.

Holy fuck, I went in thinking it couldn't be THAT bad, but uh... that was kinda rough.

I think I'd rather listen to Puddle of Mudd's 'About A Girl' cover, at least I can laugh at that.

The cover of Blackbird was lovely.
'Vinyl is the poor man's art collection'.
This isnt the same league, sport, or activity as Whitney Houstons cover of Dolly. This just feels manufactured.

while driving yesterday I saw a banana peel in the road and I instinctively swerved to miss it, thanks a lot Mario Kart.
I'm not really a fan of this.

not necessarily because of Beyonce, but more because the music doesn't feel like it fits, IMO.

with the right instrumentals, it would have a better sound.

Just listened.

I like the guitar on the track. I think the lyrics are a bit on-the-nose clumsy, but I can see what she was trying to do. Appreciate the call back to 'Becky with the good hair'.

Nowhere near the worst cover I've heard.
'Vinyl is the poor man's art collection'.
What the.

At first I was like, "okay, yeah, I understand, but it's not that bad".

But it gets worse and worse with every single line.

SMH... "Back up off my man, bitch!" is not the energy the song's supposed to have.
God forbid you ever had to walk a mile in her shoes, 'cause then you really might know what it's like to have to choose. - Everlast
At first I thought it wasn't that bad cause I was digging the guitar work on it, but then ohhhh man, those lyrics kicked in and it was fucking terrible.

Also, the video is just someone pouring booze into a cup on a loop. Pretty fucking dumb.

Not an issue in itself.

Aretha Franklin's version of Respect has a very different energy to the one Otis Redding intended it to have.

yeah i didn't expect it to be terrible and it was really bad. went from 'not too bad' to 'goddamn this is bad' somewhere in the middle

If I want to hear a "listen, bitch" companion to Jolene's story, I'll listen to Fist City by Loretta Lynn, thanks.

and the johnny cash version of hurt is way different than the nin version, but this didn't add anything positive and she didn't make the song her own. it was just bad unlike the other two

I've been told I listen to Jolene wrong, but this makes me never want to listen to it again.

I chose Aretha Franklin's version of Respect, because it pretty much gives the song almost the opposite impact of the original. Which Beyonc has also done here.

Whether people like the results or not is a matter of taste. But there's nothing inherently wrong with a 'back off bitch' Jolene.

I think part of the reason it doesnt work for me is because Id be much more scared of having pissed off Dolly than having pissed off Beyonce.

I think it's lyrically ham-fisted, and contrasts badly with the beautiful and subtle cover of Blackbird.

this technically isn't a music video; it's what's called a "visualizer."

basically, since so many people listen to music through YouTube, visualizers have become more popular, since they have something going on visually (a continuous clip) vs just the song.

also, they're not a replacement for actual videos, as some songs with visualizers receive proper music videos, too.

there is nothing wrong with an artist making a cover their own, the problem is just if it's no good. beyonce has great songs out there but this def isn't one of em imo

this is an example of an amazing cover imo

The issue is that it's impossible to tell, which is the point I brought up earlier. Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson have, lately, appeared to be very... Buyable, which is why I brought up that reviews using the seemingly stock praise of "Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson approve!" are suspect, because... Yes, of course they approve, they were paid to, and they've shown a willingness to be paid to approve of... A lot.
