Disney does not give one single shit about nerd outrage online and nor should they.
So you're just ignoring the 90-something posts of people clarifying that this is an existing female character and not just a random gender-swap, then?
very true.
which is why they continue to lose money
this is the am I that out of touch? No its the [fans who want to give money for an accurate representation to the comics they read] who are wrong meme being played out using millions of dollars
Trying to say that Disney's box office issues is due to nerds being upset online is silly as fuck. That's undeniably a huge part of it.
Which movies failed because they weren't comic accurate

What is the target audience for these movies

That's not what I was saying at all. I was saying that they were sparking outrage for viral marketing purposes -- like when they showed the ugly Spider-Man costume before Homecoming. People got upset thinking that was all he was going to get when really it was just a tease to get people talking. But this has the added bonus of categorizing themselves as progressives.
Tomorrow, YouTube will be abuzz with videos about "woke" Disney, progressive Disney, the awesome history of the female Silver Surfer you never knew, etc. You'll see the same sparring and battle lines being drawn across social media as well.
They do that anyway. It's content. Disney doesn't actually want weirdos hassling the people who work on these movies.
It's true that they don't want the actors harassed, but I still say it has an added buzz to it. You think it would get the same response if they announced that a redheaded (male) actor would be playing Mr. Fantastic?
It's a comic book movie. Any casting news get buzz. They didn't cast Pedro Pascal to troll you.
Alright. Let's wait a week. If the response to this is no greater than the announcement of Pedro Pascal, I'll concede that I was wrong.
This is completely unacceptable. Unless theres a threat of a silver dong flopping out at any given second I cant enjoy a movie. Geez Hollywood get it together.

Honestly, thinking about it. Does it matter if the surfer is male or female for story reasons? Just keep the same story and it be fine. Its just a really underwhelming decision with no real reason for it.

It doesnt matter but they are definitely using it to send a message. That they can do what ever the fuck they want. They dont have to please or satisfy the fans. Its the fans who have to comply.
Super fucking dumb, just use Nova.
What do you mean? Do you think this is bigger news? Pedro Pascal is the lead of the movie?
Exactly. I look forward to the people who say "Don't gender swap. Just use existing characters" to twist themselves into knots over this.
Ohhhh, I just saw from previous posts.
Ok then, that's alright. I wonder if they'll ever introduce Norrin Radd proper eventually then.

Well, it seems now the conversation has pivoted to "B-b-but Norrin Radd is the most iconic version, why are they doing a character that nobody asked for!"
What is the target audience for these moviesCasual audiences. You don't get to have billion-dollar movies by catering to hardcore nerds.
Guardians of the Galaxy succeeded because the writing was funny, the use of talented actors, and the tone was unique. It definitely wasn't because comic books nerds loved the original source material.
