He dropped a 4 hour video on invisible walls. Apparently SM64 has a bunch of random invisible walls in weird places.

Yup, this is the parallel universe guy.

Is the video good among 4 hour videos?

If youre into the nerdy shit like how different types of level geometry overlap, interact, and affect Mario.

He showcases a lot of developer oversight and explains exactly how/why it happens verbally and with in game modified visuals.

I've been watching this in chunks over the last couple days. It's a really cool video. The way he breaks things down and does side-by-sides with game footage and diagrams is so helpful for understanding what's going on in the game. It's honestly really impressive how good he is at explaining it all. It's also funny and entertaining.

Here's the two best parts of the video that I enjoyed the most. Apart from the magnum opus ending on the video showcasing everything with rotation and movement enabled on the map. The editing feat to do all of that must've been crazy.

I think my main takeaway here is that Tick Tock Clock is a perfect level with no issues whatsoever.

Also that the way they coded this game is fucking hilarious.

there's an entire debate on whether or not one speedrunning glitch could have feasibly been caused by cosmic rays of all things

I thought this was proven when someone recreated everything, then used a memory Editor to flip one bit on a frozen frame and recreated the glitch that way.

it's covered in the video
tl;dw a bit flip can recreate the glitch, but it probably wasn't a cosmic ray that did it

I just watched that video recently. Very interesting of course. But I was surprised that people apparently took the cosmic ray thing seriously. I remember back when pannen first posted the bounty for that, and I always thought the cosmic ray thing was basically just a joke. I never knew there were so many articles and videos running with that seriously.

I watched. I agree the cosmic ray explanation seemed extremely unlikely but I only knew that it was theoretically possible and that the mystery was never solved.

Had I known the hardware was faulty, I'd have probably suggested the RAM going bad was the most likely culprit which can cause bit flips as well.

I get that the tests didn't find any problems but I've had bad memory pass tests before so it's not a guarantee.

I mean, the speedrunning meta for one of the old Dragon Quest games is to literally place the console on a hot plate so the game code bugs out >_>

That's a very new development and IMO should be considered TAS if it isn't.
