Whats some good darker anime

Some stuff without the over the top comic relief. I loved Demon Slayer but things like Zenitsu's overly dramatic ass really makes me lose interest. I loved Berserk but disliked Puck and Isidro. I liked AoT, shit was dead serious from start to end.

Chainsaw Man had potential but i couldn't stay interested. Not even bc of the comic relief as it wasn't so exaggerated as other anime tend to have, and the 'mature' aspect was fine too.

Anyways hit me with ur lists.

I want dark fantasy settings, little to no comic relief, struggle and strife, basically a souls borne sekiro ring type anime. Old or new, doesn't matter.

You tried Claymore?
Parasyte is great, but it isn't really Dark Fantasy, as such -- could kinda qualify as "Dark Urban Fantasy" though, and it really meets your other criteria.

I'm actually watching that now. On episode 3.

It's been really hard finding titles like Berserk, Castlevania and AoT. Claymore isnt the best writing but it's scratching the itch.

Hellsing might work for you -- it's been so long I forget the details, but my lingering impression is that there is so much ultra-violence and dark shit that what comic relief is present is a very minor feature. There may also be a difference in tone between Hellsing and Hellsing Ultimate.

Gantz is kinda morbid. It's got an interesting premise. I feel like they didn't do as much with it as they could.

Ill admit I get bored by gore fest anime that seem like theyre trying too hard to be edgy, which is what I classify Hellsing as. Im more into whats classified as psychological horror or psychological thriller. Attack on Titan for example was great because it wasnt just scary or bloody, it introduced terrifying imagery and ways to die. So thats where my list is coming from.

Madoka Magica: looks are deceiving, watch the 3 movie series for the complete story arc

Psycho-Pass: season 1 is amazing, and 2 was good, but skip season 3 (one of the most disappointing seasons of any anime Ive seen)

Mirai Nikki: survival game anime with a yandere main character, which is someone who is obsessed with you in a psychopathic way

Parasyte: the others are correct, this one is pretty dark and also very deep

Death Note: maybe no one else mentioned it because it was too obvious

Drifters: I really enjoyed this one, but dont expect a conclusion

Is this the first series or the second? It's been so long since I've seen them and I watched them in the wrong order accidentally but still loved them.
Without truth, there is nothing.
Try Undead Unluck. It just came out on Hulu.
He's all alone through the day and night.
  • Another vote for Madoka. Either the show or the first 2 movies, then watch the third movie if you want more.
  • Fate/Zero (Fate/Stay Night is good too, but only Heaven's Feel I think is the sort of dark you're after which won't make sense without the others)
  • A lot of Gundam is actually rather dark, with Iron Blooded Orphans being one of the darker shows AND standalone.
  • Eighty-Six is great, but is another mecha.

The TV ending is completely unsatisfying. Rebellion fixes it to be perfect.
The Legend of Legendary Heroes is a good one, it's similar to Berserk IMHO. It starts off slow iirc but it picks up and becomes darker as the story progresses. I'm still disappointed that it never got a second season.

Revenger, Gen Urobuchi's wild ride.

The warning wasn't because of things like slurs/racism. They felt that the act of showing what happened to some of the people post WW2 was just that bad that they needed to warn you what was about to transpire.

Im the exact opposite, I think they made a mediocre ending better. But I dont really like anything approaching a happy ending. Personal opinion though.

I felt it fit the tone and atmosphere that the series had built up. I can understand why people wouldn't like it but the TV ending was the perfect sour note on a rather bleak series.
