I already know CE is going to say Symphony of The Night

I think Dawn of Sorrow on the DS is the best one.

Harmony of Dissonance i think it is. The one with constant bosses and shoulder trigger dashes. It gets hate, but it's so much less frustrating than the other ones. I don't need a hard game, just a fun one

He's only counting classic style Castlevania games, along with SotN Richter mode.

Simon's quest fucking blew ass. It wasn't until years later I found out the reason we couldnt advance is because we didn't throw water on a random spot. Fuck that.

Aside from the obvious sotn I'll say castlevania 3.
Italian, French, German.
Castlevania III

I'm with James and his love for 4. A lot of it is nostalgia and the 8 directional whipping. I'll admit that I'm just not so great at the CV games, and 4 is reasonably difficult and not insane like other CV games.

I played and beat Simon's Quest with the help of a guide and I liked it for what it is. I'd love that game if it was done better. It has a great mood/atmosphere.
Fix your hearts or die.
When I sin I sin real good.
The third GBA one was so horrible. Blurry ugly chunky graphics, and sound quality that was actually nauseating. Such a weird drop in quality from the first two GBA ones.

Oh and the map sucked too.
Ghosts are cool.
Symphony of the night duh

I watched it. I feel like, I want to like Portrait of Ruin the best just because of what little I played of it and I watched a LP of it essentially one bored day. I like the theme overall.

If I am just basing it on the more Olde system Castlvanias than obviously Castlevania: The Adventure on Gameboy. Can't top it, off just with a chainsaw; need a bomb to nuke that crap outta orbit! Can you believe it was remade for the Wii? I wonder if the Nerd ever mentioned that.

I really have a soft spot for Circle of the Moon.

But I gotta say, 4 is probably my favorite of the old ones.

I thought 2 was actually awesome at the time. Obviously it was cryptic af. I guess my favorite of the original quadrology is the first? Eh. I haven't played Castlevania in awhile, I remember thinking 3 was awesome butso damn hard and this was back in 2004 before youtube hah I know I couldn't stomach 3 now.

That's why I chose one of the metroidvanias as a semi hey I know what was up, modern answer.

I replayed Circle of the Moon fairly recently. It held up a lot better than I expected. Not as great as SotN obviously but still quite good.

Plus any of the modern options for playing it allow you to play it on a much better screen than the original model GBA, so being able to see it isn't an issue anymore.
