I think there are definitely reasons to have games that are very skill-based, or have higher skill ceilings, but not EVERY game needs to be like that.

Like, I don't have any really hard feelings about Dark Souls, but those types of games just aren't for me. If EVERY game were like that, tho, it'd be different.

If you don't need to do it then it's not required. If it is required then it's not optional.

Or sit there indefinitely, I guess. Now, the space to your left has beams of light from the sky while the other three spaces all have instant death spikes.

If the whole game is optional then the developers can require perfect play if they want. Just don't buy this hypothetical game you won't name.

This is why I pretty much never touch super-bosses. Nothing fun about grinding the post-game for hours on end just to break the entire game to fight the one enemy that doesn't play by the rules. >_>

What's a game that requires perfect play? Like as an example of an actual game. Is it games with one hit kills? I would only argue those require perfect play if you have like pixel perfect jumps, dodges, etc. Celeste had some really tough jumps, can't remember if they were pixel perfect, but it also had extensive difficulty modifying options. Can't really think of any other super hard one hit kill games right now.

Can you just give us an example of a game with what you consider shitty design so we can understand? A lot of people have different ideas on what is or isn't shitty design and the description here is vague which is why people are asking for examples.
